I have problems it too. Several roads in Perth south west missing on map. Must be at least 2 years out of date.

'That is a map version issue, which is not the issue at hand.
The problem is that when going frm point A to point B, the system can guide you 100's of klms out of your way, instead of taking a more direct and logical route.

Re: Navteq update
I just been to Bunbury last week, still showing old mandurah road only.
There are extended new freeway built couple of years ago to Bunbury.
I can't find mandurah through to extended kwinana freeway.

Re: Navteq update
Hi VinceKim. Exactly . Map version is at least 2 years out of date. I have notified my dealer, John Hughes. Their Sup for GC will be in Melbourne soon. Hopefully they can resolve this. Suggest you complain to your dealer as well so that something will be done. Thanks

Re: Navteq update
Just spoke to Jeep Customer Relations on the followup of my call to them last month. This is in relation to the glitch where you can be directed 100's of klms out of your way.
Jeep, after waiting over 45mins on hold, told me they are unaware of when the update will be released, and stated they do not control the navigation, as it is a matter between the dealer and the software supplier.
So, I then called Navteq. By the way, if you ever call them, never select the car GPS option, as you will get a message that they do not support. Anyway, the person I initailly spoke to told me that they sell maps to the dealers on an annual basis. Althogh maps may be released qtrly, the dealers opt to buy them annually. Therefore, it could be your dealer is upto 3 updates out of date compared to the current version. I requested to speak to someone with technical knowledge and was given a number to call.
I called, and spoke to a Chris Young at Navteq Sydney. He told me pretty much the same story, about the updates, and mentioned that he had heard of the Jeep problem, but was personally unaware of any fix. However, he did say that if I and others emailed him ( with specific details of the issue you faced, such as where you were, where you wanted to go, and what the result in the system was, he could run that in their emulator to see what results they get.
Please note, he can do nothing about map upgrades.
He stated that if they discovered a problem with the algorithim used, they could tell the software supplier and have them apply a fix, but that would be rolled out to the dealers most probably with the next map upgrade to apply for.
So to summarise, from what I think I heard,
  • Jeep Aust are useless, and have nothing to do with Navigation. They only supply hardware.
  • Dealers have arrangements with Navteq to buy maps on an annual basis, and that arrangement appears to be with each dealer. Latest map release is T100018215
  • Dealers upgrade annually, not qtrly with each new release.
  • There is a different company supplying the software engine for the mapping, and that appears to be the one at fault. I do not know the name of that company.

Re: Navteq update
I just got off the phone from the Chrysler Jeep customer assistance who said that they are aware of a problem with the Jeep Grand Cherokee navigation system and they are waiting for a fix from the states. They have no timeline and don't know when it will be rolled out to the dealers.

I think there are two issues as discussed above.

1) The maps are hopelessly out of date (years)

2) The software running the nav system is flawed.

This is not good enough as it has been 6+ months they have been working on this.

The system in Perth is practically unusable.

On a recent country trip I had to use our old trusty TomTom and stuck that to the window as the route that the built in Nav system wanted to take us was an hour longer on a 3 hour trip.

Re: Navteq update
Does that mean you can't even buy an updated map outside of the dealer so he can add on his 50%? Cheers Navteq. PS my satnav database comes up on the screen as version 1112 4.2.1. Got to say it is behaving itself however the roads around here are pretty well established.

Re: Navteq update
I've got the same map version as GlennR. OK around the older roads in Perth at the moment. My Nav menu says to buy updates from - when I looked I couldn't find a Grand Cherokee so was going to email and see what they have to say...

Re: Navteq update
I have had my JGC Overland for about five weeks now and the only complaint with the car is the nav.
I purchased mine from John Hughes and the sales rep told me to go talk to the service dept.
I have not done that yet as i was told the map update is coming out in about Dec
