Service schedule

I sent an email to my dealer recently enquiring about the service schedule and relative costs associated with each service.

I asked because earlier this year we bought a brand new Ford Focus for my wife and Ford have introduced fixed price servicing for this model, so therefore there are no surprises.

I asked this of my Jeep dealer and he stated that Jeep don't offer and fixed price servicing (this I did already know, I was more enquiring about the costs of each service.)
They stated that the first 3 services range from $480 to around the $750 mark with the major service at 40K's around the $1300 mark!!

My question is;
what is done at the 40K service to justify this?
Surely no components would require replacing so soon.

What does the service book state?
Obviously I don't have one yet so can't check it.

Cheers,
Matt

Re: Service schedule

This is the official 32k mi or 52k km service schedule, which has been revised for us Aussies that must always drive in harsh conditions:
❏ Change the engine oil and engine oil filter.
❏ Rotate the tires, rotate at the first sign of irregular wear, even if it occurs before
32,000 miles (52 000 km).
❏ Replace the engine air cleaner filter.
❏ Replace the air conditioning filter.
❏ Replace the spark plugs (5.7L Engine).
❏ Adjust parking brake on vehicles equipped with four-wheel disc brakes.
❏ Inspect the transfer case fluid.
❏ Inspect the brake linings, replace if necessary.
❏ Inspect the front suspension, tie rod ends and boot seals for cracks or leaks and all parts for
damage, wear, improper looseness or end play; replace if necessary.

I read somewhere there could be a $600 transmission service as part of the 40k km service.

Matty, you can download all service/handbook manuals from Jeep http://www.jeep.com.au/for-owners

Basically, the difference in a 40k service are Air filter, fuel filter Axle fluids, Balljoint lube. Overall, maybe $80 in parts, and a mortgage paymnt for ripoff labour. Ohh, dont forget the environmental rags etc as well.

New Jeep tyre kickers read these forums turning them off. Surely CJD Aust must also be scanning this forum also and must know current owners are not happy campers!

I honestly don't think they can read.

Was talking to a dealer yesterday, when he asked me if I had the recent Diesel software upgrade. I told him I had not heard anything about such an upgrade. He said it was for better economy. Anyone heard of it?

I've heard nothing. Man I wish it was easier for Jeep to communicate with its customers!

There's a TSB for sudden loss of power on acceleration and CEL coming on. Havent heard of one for economy.

But interesting you should say this. I was driving the GC yesterday, and my wife had the TT. I went to fill the TT last night and the average consumption according to its EVIC was 11.2L/100km. The GC was sitting on 11.1L/100km.

Interesting that a 2.3 tonne SUV is using less than a 1.2 tonne coupe. Mind you I'm never in the car when she drives it so who knows what she's doing.

I just want to see an update with a better shift map for the transmission.

Totally agree. That would be the icing on the cake. Right now it sounds like a manual with a slipping clutch whilst it tries to compute speed, throttle position etc. With so much torque you would have hoped it would hold gear a bit longer.
