Dash Replaced

Just got my jeep back after the entire dash was replaced under warranty. The heat for some reason caused the leather to curl up in the passenger side and buckle up for around a foot from the front corner.

They snapped a few pics of it, then called that afternoon to say that it would be covered. A week later and the part came in.

Took them 2 days to do the swap. I think they probably took the windshield out to do it, but I didn't ask. He did say that it was a total PITA and something that they don't ever hope to have to do again. That made 2 of us.

Downside - 2 brand new big scratches in my RER unit. Taking it to them in the AM to have the service manager take a look at it.

I have the same issue. Taking mine in next week. Just started to curl 2 weeks ago. I have a 2011 overland.

Bmw had a problem with leather dashes several years ago, they would curl up around the defrost vents and around the instrument cluster, so they stopped using leather on the dash for a long time because of it.

Yeah. I think the leather on the dash will be a bad idea for them. My lifetime warranty should see me through it, though.

New 730N was ordered yesterday. I'll be interested to see if they come back with an RER or an RHR. Mine came off the line in April 2010, so I'm hoping for a windfall of a new RHR if they don't make the RER any more.

Finally had the dealer look at my dash, the entire front has rolled up 1/2" or more. The dealer ordered a new dash today and installing at the end of next week.

Anyone have pics they can post? Mine isnt dramatically noticeable. No one notices it unless I point it out.

I wonder if this relates to that occassional burning smell some of us have been experiencing??

Mine is doing something similar too. I used a hair dryer and smoothed it back down. Then gave it a slight bit (not much at all) of lexol.

It hasn't come back up yet (only been a week). But I imagine it will sooner or later. Oh well, at least there is two years left of warranty for this type of item. I will wait until the last day of warranty. Have it fixed and then trade it for a new 2015 model. I don't think I'd want it back after the dealer stooges destroy it.

Can't see letting them do this at the dealer. Can only imagine the nightmare that would ensue. Things like infinite dealer vists, other items broken, scratched.

I can't believe Jeep would even make the dash from leather. Looks nice YES. But durability? NO WAY

Re: Dash Replaced

I went ahead and asked the dealer to replace my Dashboard. The bubble in the picture above was becoming larger. So the hairdryer trick does not work. It took about a week to get the replacement Dash delivered and only one day to install. But they had a slow day that day and there were at least three techs working together to get it done.

One tech told me that the hard plastic underneath the leather had warped. The entire sub-frame plastic that makes up the dash underneath the leather coating. Its the huge piece that everything attaches to. When it warped it stretched the leather so the leather "popped" loose.

Overall they did a great job. There does not appear to be any rattles of damaged pieces.

I was skeptical they would do a good job. So I am elated that everyting worked out.
