Exhaust leak or HEMI tick?

Whats up guys? Recently I have been noticing that while I am driving, my trucks exhaust sounds fine and then all of a sudden it sounds like there is a terrible exhaust leak and then goes away. If it's in neutral and I rev it, it sounds quiet like it should. It happens at partial throttle so I am not sure if it has anything to do with the MDS. Any input/solutions or anything is appreciated thanks. Its a 2006 WK 5.7L

the HEMI TICK is a lifter noise, so it's not that. you said it does it @ part throttle, do you mean light exceleration or more like coasting? is your jeep /exhaust stock?

It happens at light acceleration, it will sound fine and then all of a sudden it sounds like a ticking noise/exhaust leak. The exhaust is stock, except I had the cat replaced a few months back. The truck has 54K on it, could it possibly have anything to do with the EGR?

I wouldnt think so, but.....can you see any soot trails around it? when i changed mine the seal to the intake was deformed, not very plyable & wouldnt reseal, but it would cause more issues if it was that.

any chance on getting a vid?

If it is loudest at start up when the manifold is cold, then it would be an exhaust leak, othewise it could be the lifters or EGR. It's easy, takes about 20 minutes and $40 (advanced auto, Autozone, etc.) to swap the EGR, and I would recommend doing this by 60k anyway. If that doesnt cut it, use Seafoam in the oil, which will free the lifters up in about 100 miles, (change the oil ater this) also put it into the gas tank. Read the entire thread on EGR, and dont follow the OP's advice, as there is no need to cut the bolt; just rotate the EGR all the way to the left after removing the top bolt to get plenty of clearance for the bottom one to come out and go in.

Re: Exhaust leak or HEMI tick?

It isn't loudest at start up...the tone stays the same at start up or after a half hour. I plan on doing the EGR soon so hopefully that is it. With the sea foam, you pour it in where you fill the oil? Usually I change my own oil and do my own work, but I get free oil changes at the dealer, so I am assuming they use the proper oil.

Re: Exhaust leak or HEMI tick?

I changed the EGR today and it still does it. I figured it needed to be changed sooner or later so I gave it a shot hoping that would be my answer. I am going to Seafoam it when it gets closer to my next oil change since I just had it changed about 1K miles ago.
