Light for WK under the hood.
I cant stand how there is no light under the hood of my WK, since all my previous GC's had lights. I want to install one, has anyone done this before? I see they sell kits for Wranglers in a mag I have. I was thinking going to radio shack and getting a small light and a pin type connector and mount it on the inner fender so it shuts off when the hood is closed. I can wire it into the fuse box somehow.

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
good idea.

i would have a way to turn it off. sometimes you are under the hood all day. the light will burn up. thats what happened in my XJ to the factory under hood light.

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
I could always go to the junk yard and rip out a light from an older GC that has one stock and use that. And also use the stock pin switch from it as well if I think it will fit. The thing im confused about is how to wire it into the fuse box, i know there are empty fuse spots in there that I can tap into, just not sure how to do it yet.

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
i an NOT GOOD at wiring but I have been doing some. anyway, at the auto parts i saw this add a circuit thing. so it had a fuse piggy on another fuse and a wire coming out. so you adding a fuse and a wire to qany existing fuse. looked easy enough....

like this

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
Im just not comfortable enough with my knowledge of electrical work yet, I can follow directions for like HID install kits and im good at soldering and shrink wrap. Im finally understanding why resistors are needed with LED bulbs now. That fuse thing does look promising, just wondering if the fuses under the hood are always live and not just when the ignition is on. I could always just use a simple on/off switch and just have to remember to turn it to off before I close the hood, thats easy enough.

Say I buy a basic T15 bulb holder, run a 16 gauge power wire directly off the battery going to an on/off switch then to the bulb holder, then from the bulb holder run a 16 gauge ground wire and ground it to the cars body, is there anything else i'd need to install like a resistor? Would the battery power blow out that T15 bulb?

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
i like the thing i showed you. you add that to an existing fuse and you have fused power. then your gound for the light goes to the body. thats power and ground. then i think all your switches go to he power side of things.

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
you would need to make sure the holder can take the 12v is what i would think, otherwise it sounds like you got it all figured out! If the holder doesn't, that's where your resister would be needed to cut the voltage down before it got to the bulb.

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
I will be either getting a T15 base from an auto store or from a junk yard which I know will work at 12v. Im also going to see if the auto store sells that double fuse plug in connector, that does look like the best thing to use.

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
Yeah, or just get an inline fuse holder and use that on your 12v wire in line between the battery and the t15 bro!

Re: Light for WK under the hood.

The fuse holder i was talking about it like #7 or #8 on that link

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
I did a short write-up some years back for adding the OEM hood lamp to a WJ. Part numbers are listed for the lamp and harness:

Re: Light for WK under the hood.
^^ Good info. So I can just run a fused power wire directly from the battery to a switch then to the light, with a ground coming off it to the body somewhere. Sweet!!! What fuse should I use?
