2012 Cherokee Leaking Coolant,5K miles

Lifted the hood on my Grand Cherokee today and found white coolant spray everywhere,I was pissed.I located the leak to the plug on top of the thermostat housing.I tightened the plug and the leak went away.I hope this Pentastar holds up.I work as a honda tech and love the honda engines but hate the looks.I will ditch this Jeep if it gives me too many problems.

At least you have a warranty to cover Unexpected problems, hopefully many people won't have to use the warranty but at least it's there.

Big deal...except for defunct automakers like Saab everyone has a warranty of at least 3 years/36000 miles nowadays.

(OK, when I checked Ferrari their warranty is only for 2 years)

I was was trying to point out the benefit of having a new car warranty versus being sol if if happened with a used car without a warranty.

Took to Jeep dealer today and found this to be a known problem. The thermostat housing is on backorder.Everyone should raise their hood periodically to check for coolant leak. You dont want to be on vacation with an overheating engine..

Everyone should pop the hood and look at everything periodically. I'd say weekly! Coolant, oil, brakes, tire pressure, etc....

I had the same problem at about 3500 miles. I had coolant leaking down the front of the engine. I took it to the dealer and they re seated the bleed plug on the thermostat housing. Its been fine since.

Just venting a bit...warranties don't help when one has to arrange transportation while a vehicle is in the shop (no loaners for us lowly Jeep owners) or when a vehicle intermittently doesn't start and one has to worry about getting home on a camping trip.

Don't get me wrong...I really like driving our WK2 and still have no regrets about buying it. I just don't like having to drag it into the dealer (actually on our 3rd dealer) for repairs.

I have a 2012 Jeep Wrangler also, with the same mileage and no issues,my Cherokee engine was built in Mexico, the Wrangler engine was built in the US.I feel your pain Hammer a warranty won't help when your stranded in VA on vacation...

I had the exact same problem with my 12 Cherokee.
Two days at the dealer as they had to order the housing.
Absolutely brutal for a brand new engine to be spewing coolant.
The name that used to be synonymous with unequalled longevity is now got me wondering.
