Fair price for Silent Armor's?

Someone near me is selling 4 Goodyear Silent Armor Kevlar tires 265/60/18 lightly used with under 5k miles for $400 total. The person said they never went above 70 mph with them on and they were on an Overland that they turned in :(
Since I've never bought used tires before I didn't know if this is a fair price, tire rack has them for 204/per tire. Thanks!

Looks like more than 5k miles. They have 13/32" tread depth new.

Ask the seller to measure the tread depth. If its 10/32 or more, then it's a good deal. Less than 8/32 would be a deal killer for me. Gray area in between.

You can buy a depth checker for less than $5.

Used passenger tires sell for $20 each around here.

Wow, That's a killer deal!

I'm sure the OP would take a set of 4 for $80 from you and pay shipping too!

I sure would! That'd be dirt cheap for silent armors haha.

They buy the tires at $5 each unmounted or $10 each if they see them mounted holding air, then removed. At $20 (retail) per tire not only don't you get a choice of tire, you might not get 2 of the same tire, just the same size and type. My point is that tire values drop dramatically once used. Though value is in the eye of the buyer. There are seveal used tires dealers of which I am aware. They test the tires to see if they hold air. That's all. Perhaps one of our members deals in used tires.

That seems high for used. I would never pay it. I know there's no such thing as a "fair price for a new Silent Armor", but $400 for a used set is way too much. Factor in mounting/balancing/stems, etc. and you are almost at the price of a new set of a different brand/tire. Also, like others have said, never buy a used set w/o a tread depth gauge measurement. You can pick one up yourself for a few bucks (handiest tool ever). I stay far away from those used ads claiming "X% remaining", or "only driven X miles". Measure the exact depth of EACH -- in several locations. I've seen ebay ads for passenger tires that will have 5-6/32nds remaining, and they'll claim %50 tread left. "NO" - you can't run a tire down to 0/32nds! Well, you can, but you shouldn't.

Thanks for everyone's responses, I appreciate it. I ended up deciding to not grab them after all.
