Trade up to 5.7 - need pricing advice
Looking to talk to the salesman today or tomorrow regarding a 5.7 limited

They're asking $19,100 with 73k miles. I've got a 3.7 Laredo with a KBB of about $10,100 on trade in. So that means the gap is about $9k which seems a little steep for my budget although I would probably pull the trigger if was closer to a $6k difference.

Any thoughts on the price / idea etc...? Anything besides the "hemi tick" i should look for? The hemi tick is unavoidable right?

Their asking price looks to be about right, I wouldn't expect them to go much lower as long as everything is in excellent condition on the vehicle.

Not knowing your vehicle and mileage, just based on the motor I am assuming you have the Laredo. Also assuming you have only 60,000 miles (below the industry standard), I would be very surprised if the dealership gives you 10,000 on trade for your current vehicle. I would think you are looking closer to an opening offer of 8,000 and you may be able to talk them up to 8,500.

If it was me, I would work out the price on the new vehicle without even mentioning you have a trade, get the best deal that you can on that, and then have them appraise your trade in separately. Much easier to make sure they aren't playing around with the numbers to make you feel like you are getting a good deal.

Good luck!

Re: Trade up to 5.7 - need pricing advice
Rule #1 when buying a car. The sales idiots always ask first if you are trading one in, and you should ALWAYS say you want to get a price for the vehicle they are selling, and do not want to discuss trades in deals. Only after you get a final price, then talk about trade in value as a seperate deal, and be prepared with print outs of blue (or black) book values
Try to get a full maintenance record, and if there is none, I'd get an extended warranty, as it will save money on such a high mileage used one when things go wrong, which they will. I've saved over $3,500 in reapirs with my extended warranty.

this was during "cash for clunkers" so no one was buying gas guzzlers...
I got my 05 hemi loaded out for less than 19k. 67k miles.

i'd give them no more than 16k
or come buy mine for 15K all modded out and ready to go!

I'd start with an offer of $17k, and go from there. Nice looking '08, but I hate the wood grain.

Re: Trade up to 5.7 - need pricing advice
yeah I think $17k is what I would do and then shoot for $10k on my trade in. Out of pocket would be $7k to keep about the same mileage and from a 2006-->2008.

...i just want MOAR POWERRRR

Make sure you listen for Hemi slap, and look at rotors/pads/tires. If any of those 3 need replaced that always gives you some wiggle room on price. Those rims might make it hard to get a look at the pads but you should be able check them by feel(make sure you do it before you test drive, they get real hot real quick).

I also have an 06 Laredo w/ the 3.7l 4x4. I have 80k miles, heated leather, sunroof, premium audio. I recently tried trading it in on an '07 hemi and the highest I could get an offer for was 9500. I tried the haggle them down before you tell them you have a trade in strategy. If you haggle them down too much they beat you up on the trade in. Didn't end up going through with the trade, but thought I'd let you know what sort of offer I was getting on a very similar WK.
