Side step usability

Can anyone comment on the usabilty of the rock sliders as side steps for getting in to the Jeep. A family member needs steps for easier access for his wife. He likes the rock sliders, but is concerned they are too narrow and not as usable as the tube steps.

Can you put your foot (toes) on them.... yes,
Do they give you as much space to put your foot like tube steps .... no.

Lemme go take a quick picture of my altitude with the rock sliders and my wifes '11 Overland with the tube steps.

Thank you very much for the information and for taking the time to photograph and share. While perfect for my needs, I believe it will be extremely valuable for others in the future as well. +rep!

Neither are very useful as a step -- unless you are under the age of 13. I have learned to step sideways while entering. That way more than 25% of your shoe makes contact with the pad. Very good pics Jeepsterman! It shows how tiny they are compared to an adult's shoe/step.

On my sport trac we have to use them or it would be a jump to get in

Re: Side step usability

The tubular oval step (black or chrome) is both too narrow for more than a size five and too high off the ground (mine measure 14") for the height impaired.

To be usable it needs to be at least two inches wider and lower. I suspect it was designed by a lawyer.
