Stereo overhaul in the '11 Overland

The girlfriend wanted a new stereo in her Jeep, so she picked out the speakers, I sugggested the radio and I already had the amps. Oh and I got to supply the free labor to install everything. :) I even have some blurry in progress pictures for you too. :D
Equipment list:
Pioneer Z140BH
Fronts: Focal 165KRX2
Rear: Focal 165KRC
Sub: JL Stealthbox (on order)
JL HD 600/4
JL HD 750/1

I ran 2 pairs of Tsunami 14 awg speaker wire into each door (front and back). Luckily the connectors at the body had openings big enough to accomodate without having to modify the connector. I had to run 2 sets cause both sets of speakers have crossovers and I didn't want to mount them in the doors in case I needed to adjust anything.
For the speakers I used the stock speakers as a template to make adapters for the Focals. I used 1/2" MDF then sprayed them black to blend. I used black RTV and the stock screws to hold them in place. I also have a gasket to seal the speaker to the adapter plate. To help with vibration, I put stuck some sound deadener in and around the speaker mount.
Running the rear speaker wire sucked! I had to take the whole boot apart and used lubricant to get both sets of wires in.
RCA's are run under the plastic channel along the driver side.
No pictures yet but the amps/crossovers are being mounted where the spare tire was. If we take her Jeep on any road trips, I'll just throw the spare in the back.
Also, in case it hasn't been mentioned, you need to cut away some of the plastic part of the inner dash to get an aftermarket DDIN radio in there.
So, with all that being said, here are some crappy cell phone in progress pics (I didn't take any of the rear doors apart).

Very nice setup. I just did a similar install, but with a lower grade set of Focal's. Where are you mounting your amps?

Thanks....I've been following your install thread as well. I think my girlfriend will trade me for your '67. LOL

Where the spare tire was. She asked what happens if she got a flat, I told her she would do the same thing that she would do if the spare was in there.....call me. :D
May have room for the spare still on top of the amps and still keep it under the floor but I'll see how that shakes out once everything is done.

She gets my '67 and I get you? That seems like a lose/lose for me. Now, if you want the Camaro, maybe we can talk trade...

But I know how to work on the hemi! LOL
I'll trade you the Focals for the '67, no issue there. If you are looking to sell it, PM me a number. I need to find her a Christmas present. LOL

Re: Stereo overhaul in the '11 Overland

I just bought the same set of components for the front and will be installing shortly.

Did you need to cut away some of the plastic at the factory tweeter location to get the new Focal tweeter in? If so, did you do this with a dremel or some other tool? Does the metal ring of the tweeter stick out further than the plastic "pod" of the factory location? It seems like it will based on it's dimensions.

And just out of curiosity - did you install anything to keep the use of the factory backup camera, steering wheel controls, or factory microphone? I'm debating whether I want to use the factory stereo with LOC from the amp or just install something new.

Any help or suggestions you can provide would be very much appreciated!

Thanks!

What did you use to convert the signal from the stock amp to aftermarket amp and how did you wore it?

Awesome install and thanks for posting the picks. I'm looking for some focals myself but on a bit more of a budget as I am just starting to build my inventory before the big install. Anything you would recommend for front components and rear 2 ways by focal that sound smooth but don't run as high $$$? Thanks
