Rear Axle Replacement
I brought my 2011 JGC Overland/Hemi to my mechanic (not JEEP) for a simple oil change and, as part of the multi-point inspection, he told me there was grease seeping from the rear inner axle boot on the driver side. Took it to the JEEP dealer; they said they need to replace the axle. They don't just replace the boot anymore. Part is on order. This is just a heads up to have your axle boots checked. Of course, this could be a problem just on my JEEP.

Re: Rear Axle Replacement
Axle boots along with all driveline items, fuel lines, suspension, etc should be checked with every oil change anyway. Kind of strange that they can't replace a cheap boot but have to replace the axle with it.

Re: Rear Axle Replacement
Correct, currently Jeep does not offer just the CV boot. If you tear a boot, you have to replace the whole axle.

Re: Rear Axle Replacement
Replacing a boot is a labor intensive job compared to swapping shafts.

Re: Rear Axle Replacement
It is not that bad (have replaced a few in my day) plus alot cheaper than buying the whole axle. I just can't figure out why they don't offer just the boot. They have to make them to put on the axle to begin with.
