check engine light - gas cap loose

Today I got a check engine light on my 2011 Jeep GC with V-6 (14K miles) the gas cap was loose and I had my son check the codes and he said that was the issue. (I forget the code) How do I reset the check engine lite he could not do it with his little tool. Does it go off over time - or so many restarts ????

It should go off eventually. If not you could always go to advance auto parts and use their tool to reset it.

disconnect battery for about 10 minutes...this will usually cause the computer to reset codes

you loose none of that if you disconnect the negative cable unless they changed something in the WK2 which I doubt. Never lost anything memory related in either my WJ or WK by doing that.

its true. Disconnect the negative and push the brake pedal a couple of times.

I can't even find the battery - someone said its under the seat ???? Is this true "only disconnect the negative" and step on the brake and the light will reset? Seems if the battery is disconnected its disconnected positive or negative side, this makes no sense to me. I really don't want to have to set everything up again for all the memory stuff.

Disconnect the negative side and press the brake pedal like Scott added and your CEL will clear without loosing memory presets.
