Flapping Noise
Last weekend, I was driving down the expressway when I noticed a flapping noise underneath the car, as if I had run over a plastic bag and it was flapping in the wind. As I slowed, the noise lessened and then disappeared altogether. When I got home and stopped the car, I took a look underneath it and didn't see anything that looked like it could be causing the noise.

The sound didn't reappear during the week, but I only drove locally at lower speeds. But today, I drove on the expressway and the sound reappeared at highway speeds. When I got home and stopped the car, I crawled underneath it and saw a large sticker on the driveshaft that had come loose on one end, but was still stuck to the driveshaft on the other:

I pulled it off of the driveshaft and you can see where it was still stuck to the driveshaft on the end with the barcode and the loose end was flapping against the heat shield that covers the driveshaft:

This was a strange NVH issue, for sure.

Re: Flapping Noise
Awesome. Glad it was just a sticker.

Re: Flapping Noise
Thanks for taking the time to post this

Just had this experience with my '12 on a mountain road far from home. Between scratching my head and looking in and around the engine compartment and drive train and tires, I found I had a weak data signal, found this post, then found and removed the offending sticker. Internets and good people are awesome :D

Re: Flapping Noise
When I installed the skid plates on my 2014 Limited this weekend, I notice a large sticker hanging off one of the tailpipes...which I removed.

I'll have to look again at the driveshaft sticker...thanks!

Re: Flapping Noise
PECO,Thank You so very much for your piece on the "Flapping sound". When I finally got around to Look, it turned out to be the Left side Parking Brake cable sitting on the Rear drive Shaft, eating into the cable. The plastic ties I used to secure the both cables together. Once again, your post sent me in that direction.

Re: Flapping Noise
I had a similar experience with stickers or sort of. Chrysler likes to put the stickers on everything. I kept smelling a burning smell ,kind of like the new engine smell with the paint burning off. I smelled it for about 9K miles. I crawled under the GC and scraped two paper part number stickers off the manifold. Burning smell gone!
