Where's the Dip Stick
Not quite 3 weeks back, I purchased a '12 JGC Altitude. Well, last Sunday I went to check the oil for the first time as I had about 1,800 miles on the truck. I could not find the dip stick. I read the book, looked at the pic for the 3.6 engine and there was not a dip stick where the picture showed.

Well, I took the truck to the shop this morning and they could not find it either. Finally, we noticed that what looked like a support strut was the dip stick tube.

Apparently when the engine was put in the truck from the bottom, the dip stick got caught in the wheel well and it bent the dip stick and its tube. It also bent back some of the sound insulation.

The dealer bent the tube back to its appropriate place and fixed the insulation. They did, however, express that inattention to detail at the factory is not uncommon.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?

That's a new one! I hope no metal broke off when the tube was bent. You don't want that floating around your engine.

Re: Where's the Dip Stick
Where else would it be but in the wheel well??? But Seriously, I would be asking for a replacment part, it is a brand new car with a factory defect. Like tnjeep said, you don't want it to break off after being bent, then bent back.

Re: Where's the Dip Stick
I thought about the metal bits floating around along with normal break in bits. So, I replaced the oil and filter today. I am on the fence for replacing the part. It did not break, so I figure they may do more harm than good replacing it. Still thinking about that. The dealer service writer was very accommodating and is willing to replace the parts - tube and dip stick.
