Thinking about a Radar Detector...

As we all know the Grand Cherokee likes to go on down the highway. Although I use my cruise control constantly if it is a drive of 50 miles or more I rarely do when it is a shorter trip. I find myself above the speed limit too often and am considering adding a radar detector to my ride.

Currently I am leaning towards the Valentine One but would like input from you guys that have owned a detector for a while and give me an option or 2 as to what brands I need to be considering with my purchase.

All of the current Escort and Beltronics radar detectors are very god, except for the Solo series.

IMO, the basic radar detectors has outlived their usefulness. I have one still installed in my truck which I drive a few times per month, but found no need to have it in my DD. More PDs are using lidar guns which a detector can not save you from, or they are simply turning the radar on and off which, once again, a detector can not save you.

But if you still want to waste money, Escort Redline with their Escort live app for android and iphone is the best you can get. Also a laser shifter can be added to the redline as well.

I understand a RD will not prevent tickets and all that good stuff but it might remind me to set the cruise if I am speeding when it alerts. Where I drive out in West Texas there is always traffic on the highways (where the RD will be used) and I was thinking it might alert on someone else and allow me to check my speed. I am not a big speeder but would like to avoid tickets if you know what I mean. :)

I like my Belltronics STI Driver better than my V1.

I call both CVS detectors.

Depends where you live I suppose. Most cops around here use Ka and I still see plenty of cops with just K.

I really don't think they're worth it. As a cop we know people use them and our practices reflect it. We don't turn our radar's on until the vehicle is in full view and then it's too late for the vehicle to slow down. Also, if you have a RD in the vehicle, its a sure ticket. Also, as mentioned, it doesn't help at all if the officer is using laser.

Radar detector doesn't work well if you are the only car on the road. My detectors will pick up the cops doing the on/off thing a mile away.
