Rear safety camera

Is it just mine or is it a very poor quality camera?
Having come from a lexus rx, the camera in my limited seems of very poor quality..

Re: Rear safety camera

seems fine to me, what is the problem ?
Resolution, poor image, you need to be more specific as to the problem.
Remember they are dealer fitted and most dealers act like sheltered workshops.

Is that right they are fitted by the dealers here in Australia? if so is that all models? I cant believe that a car of the Value that they would not come out from the factory with them.

Re: Rear safety camera

In Australia the rear view camera is a dealer install on all models. In fact the install includes the full chrome trim piece that houses the camera.
Wiring is run by the tech from the camera through the vehicle for power and video.
In the US the rear view camera is a factory install.
As Enforcer posted, there are significantly different levels of expertise demonstrated by the dealer techs employed, and it is possible there may be variations in the end result.

Chrome trim piece? mine is housed in a matt black plastic. Any chance of a picture on what it should look like?

That's not quite right. The camera is installed in the US on the limited and Overland, the Laredo gets the benefit of having all the interior trim ripped up to run a cable from head unit to the rear tailgate. That said my dealer did a great job and the resolution is fantastic you could back to within 5cm with a good degree of confidence.

Yours being a factory install means that is not the dealers fault. It would have been nice of them to check it though.

Might want to check if the lens is clean. If you think it is not right, go to a dealer and have a look at another example.

My Laredo's reversing camera is fine, though at night with lights on it appears to boost the gain and becomes a bit grainy. Just like a digital camera boosting iso setting.

During the day it's great.

JC

Interesting you posted this even though it was on the older model.

Mine was fitted today by the dealer (MY14 Laredo).

I was used to my Pajero camera which was excellent in terms of quality.

This one just seems very grainy and not particulalry clear. Sort of like a webcam picture from 15 years ago. I guess it will do but thought I'd resurrect the thread to see if other MY14 Laredo owners who have had a camera fitted think the quality is ok.

Cheers
Andrew

My 2014 Overland camera is OK. I've seen much better!

Cheers,
Steve

The camera on my 2014 Laredo is terrible compared to my Landcruiser, poor resolution and at night, forget it.
