Intermitten Clunk/Knock
I drive a 2005 Jeep Laredo 3.7L with QD1, and over the last couple weeks I have randomly hearing a "clunk, clunk, clunk" when I start from a stop. The jeep doesnt do it all the time, and will even do it when i turn right and left. Seems to happen under hard acceleration, when the front of the jeep raises up. All new wheel bearings. I know I'm in need of new struts all around on the jeep. Mostly the noise comes from driver area. Jeep has 172K miles and is do for an over haul. I'm concerned that it could be the transfer case slipping, or the front diff slipping. I've read the forums and think it could also be the front diff bushings, and plan on chaning those this weekend, Just not sure if those could make the clunking sound. Other than that, jeep drives fine. Any ideas?

Re: Intermitten Clunk/Knock
Donīt know if the WK has CV or U-joints in the propeller shaft, but if they have play, they will make a clunking sound.

Re: Intermitten Clunk/Knock
I used to hear something like that once in a while...usually after it had rained and then dried up. I'm pretty sure it was my rear suspension linkage/bars. all the joints were pretty dirty and packed, dried out and no grease fittings. So I soaked them with pb blaster several times over the course of a week and it pretty much got rid of it.
maybe you will be lucky ant find it is THAT?

Re: Intermitten Clunk/Knock
i get clunking from time to time and also when raining, or wet, oddly enough i get it more frequently. my WK is lifted 2" and I've determined that it could be one or two things.. the Ujoint or Sway bar in the front moving on turns and bumps and cocking back and knocking against other components. Best to just check the joints, and bushings in the suspension.

Re: Intermitten Clunk/Knock
I'm thinking it is the suspension. I have checked play on driveshafts, and front CV axles, and all seems to be normal. I've ordered new struts for my WK, and hopefully while i'm replacing that, I'll check ball joints, bushings and check for any binding, that could cause it.
