Tow pack

What comes with the tow pack? what items do you miss out on if you put a tow bar on after purchase?

Re: Tow pack

Depends on model line and engine.

You could be missing self leveling shocks, a cable, a full size spare, the bumper cut outs.

WK2Jeeps.com has a description of what comes in a package.

Not sure of the variances for export models.

Cold Case,
2012 WK2 Overland CRD, QL, QDII and what ever else is standard on the Overland.
Dealer talked me out of some of the options like the tow bar (hitch), as in Australia, vehicles over a certain value have luxury car tax added to the GST (goods and services tax) and the stamp duty. Any extras are also taxed at the luxury tax rate. All these taxes bring the cost up to about $74,000+ for the overland, compared to USD$54,000 (I think). Adding the bits and pieces after the initial purchase saves the LCT component.

I've since found out the Tow Package includes a larger alternator and a transmission cooler. Perhaps the CRD comes with the larger alternator, grateful any advice on other subtle changes that make a difference when towing.

I don't really know whats standard in an export Overland or CRD, someone should pop in here soon.

With QL you don't need the self leveling shocks. There are two tow packages in the US, the lighter weight 5000 lb would't have the alternator bits, the 7200 lb capacity with class IV you can get on a V8 has the bigger alternator, but that alternator comes standard with the V8 option. There are no added transmission or engine coolers in the US versions.

Trailer Tow Group (available with 3.7L only)

5000 Lb. towing capacity
Class IV Receiver Hitch
Delete Rear Tow Hook
Full Size Spare Tire, Steel Spare Wheel
Rear Load Leveling Suspension
7 And 4 Pin Wiring Harness

Trailer Tow Group IV (available with 5.7L only)

7400 lb. towing capacity (7200 lb. with 4WD models)
Class IV Receiver Hitch
220 Amp Alternator
Delete Rear Tow Hook
Full Size Spare Tire, Steel Spare Wheel
Heavy Duty Engine Cooling
Rear Load Leveling Suspension
7 And 4 Pin Wiring Harness

In any case the installer would modify the rear bumper facia, remove the tow hook, bolt in the receiver, connect up the wiring harness, and enable tow in the computer. You may end up with exactly the parts you would have got from the factory plus an extra tow hook.

Thanks Cold Case. I'll check with the dealer when I get back from Iraq. The cooling side of things worries me a bit, hopefully the diesel should be heavy duty enough to start with.

Cheers & beers!

Is this an Oz thing ? In the US a "tow bar" is something that goes on the front of a vehicle when it is flat towed. What the hitch bar with the ball gozinta on the tower is a "receiver".
