Complete upgrade for 2006 WK
Ok, so I bought a nice black 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD 4.7 with the Leather seat upholstery, Boston Acoustics audio system, QUADRA-TRAC II FULL-TIME,ACTIVE 4WD & LUXURY GROUP options in October 2010 with 100,000 miles (It now has 120,000 miles) and have finally decided to update/upgrade almost everything. I won't be doing any lifting or lowering because I prefer the stock height and do not do any offroading. I drive mainly on paved streets and highways and my ride to be as comfy as a cadillac lol.

My suspension expertise is next to none but have been lurking on these forums for quite some time and you guys have taught me a lot. These are the parts I will be buying in the coming weeks and would like your advice!

1. WAGNER Part ThermoQuiet Brake pads Front & Rear
2. POWER STOP Drilled And Slotted Rotors Front & Rear
3. Looking for Calipers and Wheel hub (or anything else) too because they are filthy rusty, any recommendations appreciated
3. I just replaced my rear stabilizer links with Moog ones (had not read about SRT rears damn it)
4. Front Bushings? Looking to go with Mopar ones since they are rubber instead of Moog/Raybestos, looking for comfy instead of harsh stiff ride.
5. Shocks and Struts, really confused here, looking for something ultra comfy, read that the HD Blisteins are really stiff. No idea yet on which struts.
6. Just replaced the Upper right control arm with a Moog one, did not change the bushings, should I still do it?
7. Anyother bushings that need to be changed anywhere?
8. Ball Joints?
9. Wheels will remain stock as I like their looks.
10. Tires will be replaced by Michelin LTX A/T2's
11. What else can I upgrade concerning the suspension and brakes?

I basically want to upgrade everything!

I am also confused in which order to begin with so I can save on labour, I have no choice but to bring the parts to the stealership because I dont trust my local old school mechanics with some stuff.

You can buy stock shocks or you can just get the Bilstein ones. If you don't mind getting a little drop then you can opt for the SRT Bilstein shocks/struts which will run you more.

For shocks/struts I'd go with Bilsteins and for brake components (rotors & pads) you should take a look at R1 concepts. I'd had a setup from R1 since the beginning of the year and couldn't be happier.

Looking for a comfy ride, take advice from people here with a grain of salt. Bilstein's are frankly pretty harsh when the roads are rough, and comfy is not how I would ever describe how they ride. SRT Bilstiens are short bodied and need lowering springs, then it becomes rougher riding on bumps, and not smoother. Some have gone with KYB GR2's and like them, which are low pressure twin tube gas instead of very high pressure single tube Bilstiens. You can keep the new stock WK endlinks and I would install SRT front and rear sway bars and bushings. For the front you wlil need new brackets with the groove in the center. No need to go with slotted drilled rotors, as it is not and never will be a sports car and you will have no worries about ever overheating rotors. Slotted rotors only eat pads anyway with no benefits according to controlled tests by automotive engineers.

One other comment, I would never use the dealer to install basic suspension or brake replacement parts. That type of work is as simple as it gets for any mechanic, and any shop can do it with exactly the same results, for much less than a dealer will rip you off for.

I've always found Bilstein to be a decent ride through a wide range of conditions, as well as almost all reputable gas shock/strut manufacturers . As for slotted rotors being a waste I disagree. Sure the WK is no super car but I'm sure braking is more important to people than how fast you go down the road. Most things I've learned about rotors are that slotted rotors are superior to flat, cross drilled or cross drilled + slotted (more for esthetics than performance).

I will however agree with finding a good shop instead of going to a dealership for work done out of warranty.

I do not find my Bilsteins harsh at all, I was worried about that. I also have a loaded Laredo 4.7 as well.
