License Plate Lamps
My wife's 09 Patriot is having an issue with the rear license plate bulbs staying lit. Designing it into a tailgate that rattles hard when you close it which can jar things is a little beyond me on why they did it. Anyway, the cop stopped her to tell her they were out. I checked them and found that after I removed the bulbs and replaced them, they lit. Then I closed the tailgate and turned on the lights again and low and below, they did not light. I gave a good tap on the plastic near the bulbs and they lit. I am going to make an assumption here and assume I will need to replace the sockets because they aren't holding the bulbs tight enough? Maybe from the heat of the lamp over time heating the plastic?
Re: License Plate Lamps
no, replace the bulbs... common for an "intermittant" failure of a bulb, when a broken filament falls in a way the circuit is completed it will light, I usually use the test method on all "burnt out" bulbs as a quick check, about 15-25% of the time the lamp will come on or go out with a solid tap.
