Key+door lock=alarm 05 wk HELP

My wife lost her key fob to my jeep some where in the house. I gave her my spare whick is just a reg programmed key no buttons. When you go to unlock the jeep with the key it sounds the oem alarm system and it will only shut off with my key fob. What can I do to stop this until we find the key? Thanks!

stick the key in the ignition and start the jeep, IF they key is programmed it *should* kill the alarm.

Re: Key+door lock=alarm 05 wk HELP

That works fine, BUT is there any way to make it so the alarm does not go off when I use a key to open the door? It seems a little crazy that using the key that opens the door would set off the alarm. I want to be able to use the key in the door lock and not have to look like the idiot with the alarm going off until I start it, especially if its early morning or late night.

Yes - manually push down the locks (without using power locks or Key FOB).

This will mechanically lock the door without arming the security system.

The only way the security system can tell if you have a valid key is through the Key FOB's code when you lock and unlock the doors or through the chip on the key when you put it in the ignition, hence the alarm going off when you unlock and open the door with the key. If you think about it, this behavior is optimal: If the system is armed you need a properly coded key to shut it off. It would be unnecessarily expensive to put the chip reader in both the drivers door lock AND the ignition, so they just put it in the ignition to save some cash assuming everyone will use the Key FOB to lock and unlock the doors, but still have the car usable if the key fob is lost/broken (if a little embarassing).

^ this. Just use the metal key and lock it and it won't go off.

Thanks, the key is coded and starts the jeep. I will just lock it with the lock switch on the door when using that key!

here are the steps to program a new key if you dont have the key code . It should save you a bucks in programming fees

Customer Key Programming
You can program new keys to the system if you have two
valid keys by doing the following:
1. Cut the additional Sentry Key Transponder blank(s) to
match the ignition switch lock cylinder key code.
2. Insert the first valid key into the ignition switch and
turn the ignition switch ON for at least 3 seconds but no
longer than 15 seconds. Turn the ignition switch OFF and
remove the first key.
3. Insert the second valid key and turn the ignition
switch ON within 15 seconds. After ten seconds, a chime
will sound and the SKIS indicator light will begin to
flash. Turn the ignition switch OFF and remove the
second key.
4. Insert a blank Sentry Key into the ignition switch and
turn the ignition switch ON within 60 seconds. After 10
seconds, a single chime will sound. The SKIS indicator
light will stop flashing, turn on for 3 seconds; then turn off.
The new Sentry Key has been programmed. Repeat this
process to program up to a total of 8 keys.

Re: Key+door lock=alarm 05 wk HELP

Actually Rob I have 3 programmed 2 are fobs one is a reg none fob key. We lost one fob key and when using the non fob key or the fob key to open the door with the key lock the alarm would go off. However I did not know that starting it with the key would shut it off or that locking the jeep with the door lock button would not arm the oe alarm system. Using the door lock button, we can now open the door with a key and no alarm sounds.
