Had the 07 Overland for a week now- love the Jeep. My son and I went on a road trip today and for the first time we noticed a rumble, grinding type noise from under the passenger front seemingly. It was only at higher speeds and was intermittent- would come and go. He thought it sounded like a windspeed induced vibration- he is 20 and a second year truck and coach mechanic- he suspected the skid plate was loose, We raised the passenger side when we got home and he was right- one of the front bolts had been snapped at some point- was rusty so was a while back, and the skid plate was humming or banging with vibration at speed. We removed the plate and I ripped her on some open roads- no more noise. Now the skid plate is off I will clean her up and maybe paint it- have to figure out how best to remove the broken bolt so I can reattach the plate.
Re: skid plate
Depending on how much bolt is showing/how it's broken, one of these should solve your problem:
