Adding Power seats and swapping leather covers

i picked up a pair of heated power seats to add my jeep but i need to swap the tan leather covers with the black ones on my current manual seats, can this be done easily myself or do i need to take the seats to an upholstery shop? Thanks:thumbsup:

Depending on your level of skill it should not be that hard for you. You also don't have to worry about hog rings because the Grand cherokee seats don't use them to attach the covers to the frame.

when you said you were going to change the passener seat I thought to myself you my have trouble swapping the cover with the passeger seat.
The manual passenger seat is cut a little different since it is fold flat.

I was going to say you could just call Katzkin and ask them to stitch up a seat back for the driver seat but the airbag containment bag would be on the wrong side.

For now you can go ahead with drivers's seat and if you are adventurous see if the fold flat cover will work on the factory power passenger seat.

Read some of the posts on here there are some things you need to do before taking the seats out. I read a post before, and I think it was something about the airbags.

Well yeah you should disconnect the negative battery cable, but I don't

I just make sure the ignition switch does not get turned on. ( or it will throw an airbag fault code if you disconnect it and turn on the ignition)

I actually work on powered seats with them still connected to the car so I can move the seat back with fitting the new covers.

will the seats plug right up if you did not have power seats before? I have thought about this for my 2012 Durango but did not want to be dissapointed when the plug did not work after installing them. I have manual seats and wife wants power seats now since she has a hard time driving the durango with the manual seats since they are so low and no vertical movement

My wk2 did not come with power seats, however it has the same harness' as a wk2 with power seats, i verified this by looking at a couple at the dealers lot and they have the same amount of wires going into the plugs. Ive got the ATC with the heated seat buttons so im hoping to get the heated seats to work as well. Every option that i added so far works fine, so i got my fingers crossed lol.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that you get to those turnsignal mirrors soon and let us know if the coding can be changed to activate them. I got another week before my pair show up. My dealer is useless when it comes to doing stuff like this so I would only go to them after confirming it is possible.

Im going to take my WK2 to the upholstery shop tomorrow to have the black leather cover swapped over to the new power driver seat and have it installed, im sure its going to work on the driver side as it has the same wires as a jeep that came with a power seat( i checked one on the lot), the passenger seat may be a little harder as it comes with two harnesses which my jeep just has one on the passenger side, i dont know if its for the heated seats or the power part. here's a pic of the power passenger seat plugs and one of the plug that's in my in my jeep:confused::rolleyes:

Does that include the heated seat controls on the ATC?

Re: Adding Power seats and swapping leather covers

I do have the heated seat buttons on the ATC but they are for looks, the heated seats have an extra wire harness that would go from the ATC to a control box under the passenger seat that my jeep doesnt have so If i wanted heated seats i would have to get the mopar add-on kit. I thought the heated seats would be plug and play as well but apparently only the power seats are.:(
