DIY Sub/False Floor

I decided to put a sub in my Jeep along with a false floor. I haven't seen it done like this but I think it turned out quite well.

List of Equipment:
Kicker 10CVT124
Kicker DX500.1
Kicker PK4 Amp Kit
Kicker ZI22
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8944.jpg

I bought the last three from Sonic Electronix and they gave me a 15% discount for ordering with them!

Moving on.

This is what the cargo area looks like with everything taken out:

http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8942.jpg

Cleaned:

The sub is spec'ed for a 1.0 cubic foot box so I decided to go make it exactly that:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8943.jpg

We glued the middle part of the box first and then countersunk the screws:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8946.jpg

Then we put the bottom part on:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8947.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8948.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8949.jpg

All glued up, just need to put the top on:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8950.jpg

We decided to caulk the inside of the box with clear caulking:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8951.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8953.jpg

Instead of using glue on the top part of the box we used caulking:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8954.jpg

Wired up the inside of the box and time to put the sub in!
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8956.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8957.jpg

Box is all done, just did some sanding on the outside to get all the glue and stuff off:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8958.jpg

Then to make sure the box aligned with the stock cargo floor cover I cut out the back part where the sub is going to go:

http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8963.jpg

We used the bracket for the old floor to temporarily hold the amp in:

Then we ran the power wire to the battery:

http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8968.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8969.jpg

All the wires in the back:

Hooking up the LOC (I had to use the unamplified wires):
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8974.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8987.jpg

Already had a switch installed with an empty spot so I put in a cut off switch along with the bass knob that came with the amp:

http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8980.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8981.jpg

Everything on the amp hooked up besides the speaker wires:

Hooking up the speaker wires:

http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8986.jpg

Testing everything out to make sure it worked (gain has since be readjusted):

Everything temporarily in place until I cut the wood for the false floor:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8991.jpg

Painting the box with truck bed cargo liner:

http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8996.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_8998.jpg

Time to put the wood for the false floor in for a test fit:

Carpeting the false floor:
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_9401.jpg

Used grill grate metal for over top of the sub, counter sunk to make it level with the false floor:

http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_9403.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_9404.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_9405.jpg
http://i1213.photobucket.com/albums/...5/IMG_9407.jpg

Everything installed!

It looks good and it sounds amazing. Just the right amount of bass.
Sorry for the jumping around, let me know if you have any questions!

Re: DIY Sub/False Floor

The Jeep doesn't provide much storage room, and I'm sketching something similar. I like some of your extra touches like the vent grate.

Yeah, I wanted to protect the sub in case anything would be put in the back. I would definitely recommend!

Thanks for the Idea I'm definitely using it, and after seeing your install I really want to do this done soon. I'm not a big bass hog I just want a little extra fill. I usually end up with enough stuff for most emergencies in my trucks, and right now some of my junk is rolling around driving me crazy-lol

I am not a big bass guy either, but definitely pulls everything together. So much more room and I don't have to worry about hooking those clips on the stock cargo cover!

great work... not sure how I like the slanting floor... all these comments of saved space but you have to worry about anything you put back there falling out every time you open the door.

Great work none the less!

my thoughts were the same on the slanted floor....when I get groceries with the stock floor i usually loose at least one item when I open the hatch at home. Although, it could be my driving LOL

nice work though! clean install

Re: DIY Sub/False Floor

I was trying to look at your wiring did you use the fronts, or rear as a feed?
Btw- I almost never open my tailgate when I have packages I open the window usually.

Yeah, I haven't run into any problems yet. But I don't think it will be to bad.

Thanks!

Rears, and I usually just put them in the back seat. haha

Re: DIY Sub/False Floor

That's what I've been thinking, and then use the crossover from the amp. I keep seeing people recommend splicing off the front, and I don't understand why.
