Grand Cherokee 2012 Wheel Locks

Hi Everyone! My First Post :)

I just picked up a 2012 Grand Cherokee Laredo X last night and I love this car! It will need to be parked in the driveway and in my neighborhood we have had a rash of tires and rims stolen at night. You wake up and one of your wheels is on a wood block if you are lucky.

I went by the dealer and picked up the suggested wheel locks 82212564 from the parts department. These are really bad and stick up about a half inch pass the recess of the slots in the rim. Any bone-head with a good pair of vice-grips could get this off in 5 seconds. It also looks like crap to have one locking lug sitting up so much higher than the other post.

Does anybody know of a good wheel lock for the 2012 that will recess into the rim so that you have to use the wheel lock key to grab it inside the recess of the rim? Every car I have ever owned had this type of wheel lock.

Thanks

You can see how far the Mopar Wheel Locks stick out on the standard rim. You could take this off with a medium pair of channel locks or vise grip.

Not without damaging the wheel.

There has got to be a 14 X 1.5 wheel lock that is shorter and will sit the same height as the other lugs. I have had wheel locks on my last 3 cars and never seen anything like this.

So today I took back the wheel locks my dealer had sold me Mopar 82212564. He took one look at the picture I had on my cell phone and agreed they stuck way too far out. When he went to put them back on the rack he noticed right next to them were Mopar 82212567. Same M14 x 1.5 threads but a little over a 1/4 inch shorter. I swapped him and these are prefect. The stand as high as the factory lugs and tighten down just inside the ring where you couldn't get a vise grip on them. I know these only slow down crooks but I believe most of them are lazy and don't want to spend any extra time fighting with a wheel-lock or scratching up the rim.

Looks good. I hope the new locks aren't from the previous generation WK?

Those are the locks designed for the 11+ Challenger, Charger and 300C, and I must say they do fit better than the actual GC part. I went with the Gorilla System which replaces all the lugs with identically keyed locks. Maybe I'm a bit overkill but for almost the same price I like the extra protection offered.

I wonder why the Mopar 82212567 locks are not approved for the WK2?
