VERY unscientific test results

6 pot brembos(front only) vs. stock 2011 Durango braking system

Using one utility pole as brake slam point(emergency braking maneuver)
next utility pole as measuring point(just worked out that way) Plus I had no measuring device longer than 25 ft to measure distance between utility poles. Test conducted on private site/company owned/closed.

****I will add the human error in this test. I tried to start emergency braking at the same point on the pavement...but I couldve had an error of 1-3 ft**** I also did about a 350 mile break in on the new pads on the brembos and then a bed in as recomended by Raybestos.

Stock runs 60-0
stock 2 piston front(vented)/single piston rear(solid disc)-STOCK pads

toyo proxes st2 tires

76 degress sunny-0 wind 11:30 am

using utility pole as brake slam point

1st stop from 60

128 ft.

2nd stop from 60

131 ft

3rd stop

138 ft

4th stop

147 ft

------------------------------------------------------------------

6 piston front Brembos

6 piston Brembos on front w/raybestos pads and stock 15" rotors

1 piston rear w/solid disc, stock pads

84 degrees, cross wind 230 pm...same circumstances as above

1st stop

120 ft

2nd stop

115 ft

3rd stop

114 ft

4th stop

114 ft

results speak for themselves. The stock system performed ok on first and second stops and got progessively worse. The brembo equipped vehicle got better with every emergency stop. More results when the rear brembos arrive. You can interpret the results as you please.

I will do this mod. But I need new wheels first. Did you happen to test whether stock 20's clear the calipers?

I dont have my stock wheels...so no. Sorry! The only wheels I KNOW that work...are the 20" and 22" Jeep SRT replicas and the 20" 2012 jeep SRT8 wheels and replicas!

updated stopping distances after doing some measurements of the utility poles. Now shows the true stopping distances.

Next measurements will be with the rear brembos

Scott, from what you remember from your srt8 brembo upgrade on your WK, can the 6 piston brembos from the WK2 SRT8 be used on the WK1 SRT8? Wouldn't mind doing that if its a little cheaper than the Willwood upgrade.

Scottina06 09-01-2012 03:10 PM

No sir unless you had custom mounting brackets made. The bolt spacing for the 6pots is 5.5" vs. The wk1's 4.5"

Scott,

Did you install stainless steel brake lines as well?

What was total part cost? $2000 +/-?

Thank You

no...used the stock brake lines

yes....check the prices on justforjeeps.com They will give a better discount to forum members...but $2000 is about right.
