1988 cherokee speedometer
 
hello.i am glad to found this forum
i own a 1998 jeep Cherokee sport.6cyl inline.4.0L.automatic.i have this jeep for several years,.and it has served me very well.it has 193000 miles.
the speedometer needle moves all the way up and down while driving.car do not accelerate/decelerate .just the needle.
is a sensor or a switch going bad?,and where is located?

on my 98 i had to unplug it, put some DIELECTRIC grease on the plugs, and put it back together.

try it :)

thanks for the answers,can you explain?what it is that you unplug and put the grease? and where is locate?
if i know the name of the part,you talking.it be good.

The giant plug is going to be located on the back of the gauge cluster. Remove the cluster, clean the contacts on the plug and into the cluster, put dilectric grease onto the terminals and reinstall.

my has 2 plus behind the gauge cluster,i cleaned and applied new dielectric grease,still same problem.also i replaced the vehicle speed sensor located on the transfer case,and still no fix,i am thinking it may be the gauge cluster.but i am not sure.
please any help is good.
