Cleaning ballpoint pen ink mark on leather

It was bound to happen I guess. My 22 month was holding a pen and made a small line (an inch long) on the center arm rest. She is grounded for a week. ;)

I googled and used isopropyl alcohol to clean, but it didn't work. My leather is frost beige color so the blue mark is quite visible.

I plan to buy a can of "foaming shaving cream" (Barbasol?) tomorrow and try that. I am too afraid to use other options I found online.. such as brake cleaner, nail polish remover, etc.

Anyone have experience removing ballpoint pen ink from leather?

cheers,
-A

Although the "leather" seats on my 2005 WK aren't really leather...rubbing alcohol with a Mr. Clean type magic eraser worked on mine.

ArmorAll "All purpose cleansing wipes". Available everywhere. Follow up with a leather preserative on any area that you use that cleaner on.

Lysol aerosol has always worked very well for me in removing ink. (I'm a neat freak, so I always have some on hand.)

I'll second the tip of applying protectant after getting the ink off. Many cleaning fluids can dull surfaces whether plastic or leather.

Most stores that sell leather furniture stock a large crayon like device with a soft wax like consistency designed to remove ball point pen ink. I have used it with great success when my youngest boy decides to use the couch or the car seats as a canvas for his latest fresco.

Lyson, Armor-all and Barbasol did not work. I will try a leather shop to see if they have a cleaner. Worst case, I will live with it... as it will remind me never to give my daughter a pen when she is in the Jeep. LOL.

thanks for the suggestions guys...

I've used Surf City Dash Away to remove ink on my car's leather. It worked great. However, my seats were protected fairly well to begin with. I doubt in your case it would work, since IPA has already failed.

I have the same color interior as you so Aiyer. Presently, I've yet to run into anything "normal" that those AA cleaning wipes wouldn't handle. Your lil one must have used the Chuck Norris of ink pens!

Which wipe should I use? I tried the leather wipe.

Aiyer, give the first ones a try. These are the ones I was referring to originally. I don't clean the entire interior with these, but for spot cleaning, they do quite well.

In autopia.com theres a section dedicated to stain removal products that are dedicated to each type of leather, from a quick research I did you can use Leather Master stain remover.
