HO exhaust question

Do you HO guys have just the 2 cats in the y pipe or do you have the third one also? The reason I'm asking is because mine never had the 3rd cat. I don't believe it ever did as I'm the second owner and it didn't have a lot of miles on it when I got it and as far as I know the original exhaust. In the pics below you can see where the exhaust was welded together but that was cut there to remove the y pipe to change the oil pan. It was just straight pipe there. Also in the pic where the clamp is the pipes have the original locator tab and notch so I'm thinking the pipe from the y pipe to the muffler was original.

Re: HO exhaust question

I think that there is no difference on the exhaust for the 4.7 and 4.7HO. Mine also only has the precats.

Mine looks the same as yours...2 pre cats only.

I noticed you are missing resonator. Looks like a canister in pic #3

That's weird the service manual shows the cat between the y pipe and muffler on all 4.7's(federal and Cali) and Stone has one on his:confused:

I also have the 3rd cat, but mine is a 2001. I remember reading something about this before that agrees with what Ryan said, some time in 04 they deleted the 3rd cat, maybe all 04's?. I plan on taking mine out when I do my exhaust, on the 2001 the pipe is 2.5" up to the 3rd cat and goes to 2.25" after it, so if I cut it out I can easily do 2.5" the whole way back, for whatever that may be worth. Stonecold's is a 2000 I believe thats why he has all 3.

Re: HO exhaust question

Thanks for all the input guys! The reason I am so curious about this is I'm seriously considering Stonecold's muffler delete and going to 3" the whole way from the y pipe to the bumper. I'm afraid it might be too loud with the 2 cat system.

So the canister looking.thing down stream.of.the small twin cats is a bigger cat? But no sensors? Then I guess I have this.also
