My Gig Radio

Hi Guys,

Having an issue and I hope to get some advise on what to do. Bought my Overland 4 months ago, I extended the maintanance plan by another 2 years with Jeep, not an aftermarket warranty plan.

Anywho 2 weeks in and Mygig radio starts playing up, doesnt want to keep memory of the radio stations and when recieving calls, I could hardly hear the person sometimes, even if I put the volume up, made no diffrence.

After fighting with the stealership, they replaced the radio, when I asked them if its a new replacement, they replied by saying no, but they made sure it works. All good, I am not fussy as long its the same radio and features and most importantly, it works.

Now this week the radio has started its crap again, if I make a more than 2 calls or accept too many calls eventually I cant hardly hear the person I can put volume to full and it makes no diffrence. When the call ends radio has the same problem the volume is not ajustable. Switch the radio off and it keeps playing. Only way to make it stop is to take the key out the ignition.

Now a second problem has started. Wanted to listen to music on the HHD and it doesnt read anything, went onto the setting and it doesnt HDD drive space at all!! 0.GB  Clearly its not reading the HDD.

So my question is as follows, can go back to the stealership and demand another radio, and this time I want a new one, or do I let them fix it? Secondly does my extended maintance plan from Jeep cover this? These radio's arent exactly cheap to replace.

Any feedback would be appreciated :)

you are going to have to read deeped into your plan, each plan is different. If you have the warrenty, bring it to them. Let them deal with it and sort it all out.

Do you know what version software it's running? Could be due for an update. You can get a free system software update from the dealership or download the ISO and burn a copy yourself. There's a thread somewhere on here with the proper links. I'll dig it up when I get home.

Thanks for the feedback. I have already updated to the latest current version when I got the second radio fearing this would happen, dont think its the software..

On my extended warranty through Jeep, they had the option to provide refurbished units (and did several times) when my MyGig REN began acting up. As a previous reply said, it depends on what is buried in the fine print.

The good news is that the dealer stayed with it and the last refurbished unit has been good. BTW, they ended up replacing the head unit, the amplifier unit. and several speakers, as I had ongoing problems with diminished volume in the various speakers. Some of that seemed to be caused by corrosion at the wiring connections. Never understood why because it was a new new vehicle at the beginning of the 2008 model year.
