ESP and Lift Adjustments post-install?

I've had a few questions about the ESP after my 2" lift was installed but hopefully this will get some better attention.

MY ESP tends to activate a little too easily for my liking, usually when making tight turns. Turning it off works (by pressing and holding down the button) but I'd rather have a more permanent/reliable and more importantly SAFE solution to the problem. I think during every day driving, the ESP system is really awesome. I've seen ESP modules for lift 4" and up, but that seems aggressive and unsuited for my needs, seeing that I'm only 2" higher.

My shop did the alignment but could they have maybe missed the steering angle adjustment? I'd like to take it in with something specific for them to do, instead of just saying the ESP activates when it shouldn't.

Hi,

My Wk Grand cherokee with a 2" RC lift has exactly the same issue.

I changed FL and FR ABS sensors but nothing changed. When turning a little bit too fast, esp turns on.

It had 3 different alignements.

Did you find a solution ?

Thank you

Still no solution. I've browsed through a few other forums and it seems like the WK just doesn't like any kind of lift kit. Possibly reprogramming ESP, but I'm still not sure on specifics if/how that actually works. I've reprogrammed with my Superchips to change the tire size and that didn't make a difference. I might ask the dealer, but I doubt they know.

The superlift 4" kit has the option of a ESP module that calibrates for the large lift but I don't think it'll work well with the 2".

I'm mainly worried about ABS/ESP activating in the snow/ice when it shouldn't be. Obviously, ABS/ESP coming on when I don't want them to would cause some stability issues when it's slippery out.

Really disappointing...

I wonder if I'm not going to unlift the Grand Cherokee.

I found this during a search, did you try it ?

Unfortunatly for me diesel Grand Cherokee is not mentioned. I have to call my dealer

SUBJECT:
FLASH: ESP System May Prematurely Activate Momentarily When Negotiating A Curve
Or MIL Illumination Due To Diagnostic Trouble Code P0340, P0344 or P0116
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves selectively erasing and reprogramming the Powertrain Control
Module (PCM) with new software.
MODELS:
2004 - **2007** (HB) Durango
**2007 (HG) Aspen**
**2007 (DR) Ram Truck
2005 - **2007** (WK) Grand Cherokee
2005 - **2006** (WH) Grand Cherokee (International Markets)
NUMBER: 18-014-09 REV. A
GROUP: Vehicle Performance
DATE: November 6, 2009
2006 - **2007** (XK) Commander
2006 - **2007** (XH) Commander (International Markets)
2004 - 2006 (KJ) Liberty
NOTE: **This bulletin applies to the HB/HG/WK/WH/XK/XH/KJ vehicles equipped
with a 3.7L, 4.7L or 5.7L engine (sales code EKG, EVA, EVD, EZB or EZA).**
NOTE: **This bulletin applies to the DR vehicles equipped with a 5.7L engine (sales
code EZB).**
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience a premature and momentary activation of the Electronic
Stability Program (ESP) system. The premature activation of the ESP system may or may
not be accompanied with the illumination of the ESP indicator lamp located in the
instrument cluster. The customer may experience the momentary ESP system activation
on a “clover leaf” type turn, at speeds of approximately 25 to 40 MPH (40 to 64 KPH). This
could also be described as a lack of throttle response or hesitation. Driving over speed
bumps at a slight angle can also cause the same ESP event accompanied by lack of
throttle response. The customer may also complain of low idle speed.
The customer may also experience MIL for one of the following Diagnostic Trouble Code:
i. P0340 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit - Bank 1 Sensor 1
ii. P0344 - Camshaft Position Sensor Intermittent - Bank 1 Sensor 1
iii. P0116 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor Performance
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (StarSCAN® or DRBIII®) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures
available in TechCONNECT, verify all engine systems are functioning as designed. If other
DTC's are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before
proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the vehicle operator describes or experiences the Symptom/Condition, perform the
Repair Procedure. If the PCM software is up to date and the above mentioned DTC's are
present then further diagnosis is required.

Re: ESP and Lift Adjustments post-install?

I had it done the first time I saw it come out. I think there's a newer revision after I got mine. I thought it was for just a faulty ESP activation, totally separate from having a lift kit installed. But I might try it. It's the same issue as what happens with a lifted WK, so I assume they are lessening the ESP sensitivity which might help.

Re: ESP and Lift Adjustments post-install?

Do you think the Rough Country kit could be involved ?

Would it be better with another kit ? (rocky road outfitter.....)

Thx

Laurent

Re: ESP and Lift Adjustments post-install?

I think it's just the nature of the WK's 4 wheel drive system. Anytime you change what they intended from the factory there is going to be some sort of give/take of what they designed it for. Lifting it changes the driving angles/steering/etc so the ESP is just confused. Especially since the WK stock setup has a lower front than the rear. The 2" lift/level kit raises the front quite a bit.

Re: ESP and Lift Adjustments post-install?

I put on a 3 inch ome lift on 2 months ago and I have had the light come on twice since, like mentioned it happend right after turns, and I had an alignment done and everything, good thing it goes off after I turn the car off and back on, doesn't really bother me too much, I like to take turns slow anyway.

Atomic Lutin 11-27-2013 05:58 PM

I can't understand why there is no ESP mod for 2" lift like the AEV EGR module.

It seems that ESP is a recurrent issue on 2" lift.

For me it's really annoying

Re: ESP and Lift Adjustments post-install?

I had a hybrid lift on my 05 a while back (before the SRT), that was about 3-3.5" and my stability control would cut in but wasn't a problem most of the time. Not sure why you guys with a smaller lift would be having so much trouble, but there is a company called ProCal who makes a module to work with the 4"+ lifts that should alleviate the issue.
