Re: timing chain

I have yet to replace one setup by itself to repair a concern, but when I assembled my motor i replaced my timing chains, sliders and tensioners.

The 4.7l is VERY common for piston slap, I just traded rigs with a friend over the weekend so I could take his 03 ram 1500 powered by a 4.7l into work and do some work for him. His rig has 100k less miles than my grand and it clatters like a mother till its warm... as does my grand.

I have not seen someone actually tear one of these down and measure everything to deturmine if it is a cylinder issue or a piston issue, I know the 4.0l has oval shaped bores that is what causes their piston slap, but the 4.7 i suspect may be due to the coated piston skirts and the coating wearing off.
