Which tire would you go for.

What do you guys think? They are retreads by a company that supports off roading. I have heard great reviews on other forums before I bought my new WK2. The fact that they are retreads does not scare me. **EDIT - It seems that I left off the manufacturer, Treadwright you can check them out at www.treadwright.com . They offer other tread patterns too but these three were my choices in the size I wanted.**

Sizing is 265/70/17
A. Guard Dogs ($119 each)

B. Sentinals ($118 each)

C. Warden ($118 each)

I am not much for retreads but I think I know the company and I have heard all good things as well.

I voted for the Wardens , they have BFG KO AT tread which has been good in snow and Ice along with being quiet on the Highway with good wear. They are not the most aggressive but they do decent off road.

I wouldn't touch any of them with a 10 foot pole.

You spent the money to buy a newer vehicle, don't cheap out on the only part of it that touches the ground.

A used Toyota 4x4 I had came with retreads on it and I had no problems. The dead ones you see along the highway are from overloaded overspeed 18 wheelers.

I'm looking at getting 18'' wheels for street use with a less aggressive pattern. I will be putting one of the above tires on the stock 17's that I have for winter/offroading.

So you want to have lower quality tires when you're dealing with limited grip situations, potentially farther from civilization?

Keep in mind if you're 4x4, your spare tire needs to match the diameter of the other wheels. So if you have a retread fail on you in the winter, you won't be able to put on your spare if its a different size.

I get the desire to save money, on tires that will ostensibly have less use. But in certain situations, those may be the tires you want to be more reliable due to their use.

I don't care if they were free, I'd never put recaps on any vehicle I owned.

Anyways, if you don't feel safe with retreads, then don't buy them. My question in this post was which of the 3 tires would you choose from not whether they were safe or not. I work in the big truck industry and the tires you see that are shred on the side of the road are often retreads. That is because a majority of trucks use retreads, the reason they fail is usually due to debris in the road or improper care/loading. A new tire under the same circumstances would have the same consequences as a retread.
We are all adults (well at least most of us are ) and can make our own decisions and if I want to save a little money on buying a retreaded tire so I can afford other mods then so be it. I just wanted different opinions mostly on the tread patterns.

Also, my typical offroading is on the beach and in snow during the winter months (if we get any lol).

If it were me I would do the guard dogs but from what you were describing about your driving I voted sentenials. Don't let these guys sway you on retreads. People have a hard time accepting things they aren't knowledgable about, I get som much flack for rebuilding wrecked cars then putting my kids in them but I know what my repair skills are and I know plenty about the car and appropriate repairs so meh don't really care what they say.

Thanks for the support. I'm still trying to figure out my set-up. I'm thinking more and more of going to either the Guard Dogs or Wardens but I'm still open to the Sentinals. I like the look of the Guard Dogs best, but for my application the Sentinals may last longer and be quieter, but the Wardens seem like a hybrid of the two lol.

I have never been a fan of the BFG so that helped me make my decision ha ha. Thanks for bringing this up I think I may try out tires from there when I'm due. Great prices.
