Speaker Install Question

Hi All,

My speakers finally arrived from the US! :D

Now, just a quick question! I know some have installed 3.5" speakers into the dash of a WJ (factory 2.75"), how much work does it involve? And what?

Re: Speaker Install Question

Depth is going to be the real challenge. The cover on the front of the dash that you remove to install the speakers is just held in place with friction clips. I used a small socket and ratchet to removed the screws that hold in the speaker.

Re: Speaker Install Question

Just did this the other day,not for those not comfortable with a dremel or die grinder!I used my handy die grinder to hack out one of the speaker screw mounting pads,a bit of the dash that is covered by the trim panel, and a bit of the firewall insulation, all the while trying not to marr the dash panel itself. The driver's side is very tight, more room on the pass. side.I also had to hack off most of the plastic ring on the top side of the new speakers being careful not to nick the cone.Butcher job perhaps, but they fit under the stock cover(barely),don't rattle or buzz, and really improved the sound over the factory grenaded units.
