Ran the HVAC test...

And I scored a respectable 10 codes. :D

22 - Left temperature door travel too large
24 - Right temperature door travel too large
43 - Engine air intake temperature bus message missing
48 - Right temperature door was not responding
52 - AI (Recirc) door travel range too large
55 - Right temperature door travel too small
58 - Engine coolant temp bus message missing
59 - Vehicle speed bus message missing
60 - Engine RPM bus message missing
63 - VIN number bus message missing

Only 5 of the above really matter, rest seem rather pointless. Add in the bearing on my AC compressor has packed in, but I do have a recon'd one sitting to be fitted.

Never done this test before, but the prognosis doesn't look good huh?!

Hopefully it holds out during Winter but this car is now just becoming a bag of hurt bearing in mind the 51k on the clock... PS fluid leaking, AC compressor clutch failed, now AC compressor failed, front rotors warped, now the HVAC system if screwing up... :(

A Merc C class is looking so good to me right now, but with Winter coming 4WD would be handy.

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

Is the system really misbehaving, or where you just curious and did the test?
I would start by disconnecting the battery for 5 min to reset the HVAC memory and then see what is still left over. I wouldn't mess with it as long as the system is functioning normal.

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

I noticed it has started to blow cold air on occasion etc.

I thought about all the above repairs needing done and have come to decide I'm going to swallow my losses and get rid of the Jeep.

Going to get a Merc C class. Always wanted one and I'm starting to hate the Jeep if I'm honest.

I'll still hang around on here though. See how you are doing etc. Hopefully in the next few weeks I will have the new ride.

That is a pitty that you will sell the jeep, eventhough i can understand your reasons.:(
But even Mercedes can give you a hard time as well:slapfight:

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

Yeah, I know. I was going to sell it when the clutch went but decided against it - mainly because I just paid it off.

Now, with all the other issues, it's just becoming a headache. I know the Merc could give me a tough time too, but at least there are a lot of them and there are independent garages near me.

I've got a really nice camera and lens which in all fairness I don't use as much as I should be so decided to sell them to put money towards the next car. That and some savings, anything I get from the Jeep will save me getting a loan and paying back for 2-3 years again.

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

I've had almost those exact codes for the last 4 years and everything is still working. The ac/heat isn;t is strong on the passenger, but who cares right.:D

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

Hi Marty,
I know it's too late for you now and you've gone over to the Merc side!!
I ran this today in my dinner time and got:-
24, 52, 54, 58, 59, 60, 61, 62.
Did this as today for some reason my heater blower is getting hardly any air through the vents - everything works in regards to temperature and the blend doors will operate to let cold through on one side if need be.
I'll reset the battery tonight and see whats left afterwards.
Anyone know if there's anything to worry about with the codes I've got?
Cheers
Paul.

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

24 is a current fault code for the right temperature door travel too large. All the rest are historical fault codes. Indeed reset the system by disconnecting the battery for some minutes and then do the calibration : Jeep Grand Cherokee WK - Climate controls (eventhough the link mentiones WK, its for the WJ)
After this check again for fault codes.

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

Hi Frank,
Just disconnected and iy comes up with 52 first no which may explain the poor blowing - I'll drop the fan out and have a look at the re-circ doors.
The chap I had the jeep off did the blend doors already so I know I'l ok there for now and they still do what they're supposed to.
I've read lots on the motor reversal so I can check the polarity at the motor plug later too.
All fun eh!!

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

Seems that the recirc door somewhere in between can cause low flow issues. A blower motor controller wrongly wired can let it reverse and you wonīt get any air at all, or a very little bit. But it was working ok before, so as long as you didnīt mess with the wiring, that could not be wrong.

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

Hi Frank,
Yes - it was working one day and then started blowing very little air.
I cannot hear any movement when I hit the recirc button so I believe that will be the problem.
I did find this :-
http://askville.amazon.com/blower-motor-problems-jeep-grand-cherokee/AnswerViewer.do?requestId=2891345
So I'll see what I find when I take the fan out.
Still need to sort my transmission clunk but I think I'll start another thread or the mods will get annoyed with me!!!!
Cheers
Paul.

Re: Ran the HVAC test...

I have been working on my WJ for the past couple weeks as well. It all started when I noticed a faint fog or mist coming from the vents. Did a little research and figured out that my heater core was leaking. There was also a the fact that I kept running out of coolant every couple of weeks.
So now I don't have a dash, instrument cluster, steering wheel, or HVAC system. I did HVAC test a while ago and got the usual. So I figured that while I was under there changing the core, might as well fix the blend doors. I also found a nice puddle of coolant under the passenger side carpet. Now begins the process of repair, replacement, and cleaning.
