2006 Grand Cherokee 3.7l Stuck in 1st or 2nd Gear P0700 and P0657 Codes

I just bought a 2006 Grand Cherokee 3.7l at an auction. It has P0700 (Transmission Control System Malfunction) and P0657 (Actuator Supply Voltage A ckt/open) codes. Reverse works fine, when it is in drive it is stuck in 1st or 2nd gear. I was able to get the autostick to change the gear number in the instrument cluster display a couple times, but it didn't actually shift and it normally just doesn't respond when trying to switch gears manually.

It is leaking transmission fluid from the wiring connection on the transmission. When I pulled connector out it was dripping in trans fluid. I cleaned it off and put it back together but it didn't help. I am going to get the updated part from Jeep and install in.

All of the troubleshooting procedures for P0657 reference the TCM. I have not been able to find the TCM. A couple places said behind the dash near the steering column. Is it there and I am just missing it? Also found an article that said in 2003-newer the TCM is integrated into the PCM. Anyone know where it is actually at, if it has one?

Any other ideas what the problem may be?

Thanks

Hi there, P0657 is registered as a solenoid supply voltage circuit fault, which is the reason why it wont physically shift into gear three for one. P0700 is registered as a TCM fault, the TCM is located under the steering column on the right side, have you removed the trim silencer, it would be the the one with the harness leading into it, my biggest concern would be the leaking ATF+4.

TCM issues are well known and there are two "fixes". One is just replacing the shifter bezel as it houses all the electronics for the selector. Cost seems to be around 6-700 dollars. The other option is to disassemble the bezel and clean the electrical contacts inside. A quick search should find the info for you,on how to do that. Either should fix the P0700 code.

A P0700 code is just a generic DTC signalling the TCM has a code stored - it in itself doesn't say where the fault is (other than the transmission/PCM). I don't think with the actuator voltage code that was pulled it is going to be a shifter bezel problem. The actuator circuit is shorted, or there is a problem with the PCM.

You are either going to have to be handy with a digital volt meter and reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting flow charts, or take it to a shop to get this one solved, IMO.
