Transmission Overheating 2011 Patriot

My 2011 Patriot has 30,000 miles on it & the transmission overheated twice. When I took it to the dealer they downloaded an update for the CVT & then charged me $300 for the burnt fluid stating the fluid was not covered under the warranty. Has anybody run into this before & what were you able to do about it. Thanks (ps my 2010 Honda required an update to the CVT also but they notified me about it, Jeep never sent out any notification to owners)

Bull! Go back to that dealer and start screaming, the warranty is bumper to bumper and all the tranny parts including the fluid is covered. The only exception is that if you damaged the tranny by hitting on a rock or something. Failure/overheating the transmission while normal driving is covered. If the dealer doesn't give you the money back file a complaint wth Chrysler Corporation. I have a 2012 Patriot with a CVT and have had no problems with it overheating. Good Luck!

Re: Transmission Overheating 2011 Patriot

We have been a happy 2012 Patriot owners. Until after 35,000 miles, our transmission has overheated on 3 separate times during our road trips. It seems to occur after we have driven for over 6 hours at normal speeds on interstate. We have taken it to dealer for diagnosis and repair but there appears to be no solution. When we contacted Chrysler corporate, we were told the car was not designed to drive long distances. It does not seem possible that we can not take our vehicle on road trips. We bought it so we can visit our farm that is 8 hours away. We stop an average of 4 times for gas and walking the dogs. Is this possible? What can we do?

Agreed. Not only is it covered by the 3/36 but it would be covered by the 5/100 powertrain warranty. Unless they can show improper use by you( i.e. towing more than the vehicle's rating as a prime example )burnt fluid indicates a problem with the trans and problems with the trans are covered by both factory warranties.

Also, if the fluid was burnt by 30K there is definitely something WRONG!!! Just changing the fluid isn't goikng to fix the problem. In another 30K or less you wiill have the same problem. If my trans had burnt fluid at just 30K you can bet I would be getting a new trans in there.

Go back and #1 tell them you demand a refund as the burnt fluid should have been covered under the B2B warranty and #2 it indicates there is a serious problem that you want looked into ASAP. Why did the fluid burn at just 30K? It is rated for 100K+ in normal service and 60K in severe so 30K and it is burnt means something is wrong.

I would call Chrysler and report them even if they do refund the money. Totally unprofessional on their part. This is a classic example of a "stealership" as people call them. Thank god I have a good one to deal with.

EDIT - I have a 2011 as well and I tow with my Patriot somewhat often( 20+ times a year ). My boat weighs approx 1700lbs. No burnt CVT fluid for me.

i have driven 1200 miles twice with few stops and never had issues. 2011 with 23k. That dealership is screwing you.
