P/S Fluid at "min" mark???

Hey gang. While detailing under the hood I noticed my power steering fluid reservoir is almost down to the “min” mark. Now, granted, the “max” and “min” are not that far apart, but I thought it was a bit odd for the level to be just above the “min”. I don’t see any leaks and park in the same spots at home and at work with no visible stains on the pavement. The vehicle is an early ’11 GC Laredo with the v6 and X package. Current mileage is under 12,000. Has anyone else noticed this?

Thanks for the sanity check.

Was the engine hot when you checked? If not, it could be that the fluid will expand a little when hot and be right at the 'full' mark.

When the fluid is at normal ambient temperature, approximately 70° - 80° F (21° - 27° C) , the fluid level should read between the MAX and MIN markings. When the fluid is hot, fluid level is allowed to read up to the MAX line.

Check for any obvious leaks. If it is at the minimum mark you're ok, just keep a close eye on it for awhile. Or top it off to bring the level up and watch it from there. Just make sure you use the correct fluid as two types were used for the 2011 WK. (w/ and without electric steering).

Great advice guys. Much appreciated. I don’t have the moan during parking but will check the boots. Will also check the level when the engine is hot.

Thanks!

I just noticed that you are using WHITE font color... which doesn't show up on some of the JeepGarage backgrounds...

Thanks Milous! Just changed font color. Hope this one is a better choice.

Bob.

The above makes reference to a Technical Service Bulletin. You may want to make an appointment with your dealer, explain the issue you are experiencing and make reference to the TSB. They should check out the vehicle and perform the needed repair for free as long as you are under the basic warranty.

Milous was right (as usual!). I took the Jeep for a long ride and then checked the P/S fluid level. It was up around the “max” mark. I have now noticed the reservoir is not mounted straight as the level is slightly different if I view it looking from the fender side versus the engine side.
