Intermittent Power Steering
08 WK 3.0L CRD - The wife had the steering lock up on her twice the other day. Both times the vehicle was running for 5 min. and she got in, put it in reverse and proceeded to back up but could not turn the steering wheel. She turned the jeep off then started again and steering was restored. She said it sounded normal... didn't hear anything out of the ordinary. From what she describes, it sounds like she was fighting the power steering... Not a steering lock. There was still movement but extremely difficult. Temperature was slightly below freezing. That's all I know. I'm not home to deal with it until tomorrow. Wondering if any of you guys have heard of this before. I'm kinda stumped. Why would the power steering work, then not, then work again??
I didn't see any TSB's concerning this.
This wouldn't be a good thing if she were driving and this happened.
Re: Intermittent Power Steering
The ignition cylinder itself was a new design for 08 with the FOBIK keys...instead of being a mechanical locking system, it uses a electro-mechanical system. Maybe something is wrong in the switch and it is not releasing? Just a thought
