How To: 6k HID's Lows/Fogs on an 08 WK

Here is my rundown of my install of 6K HID lows and fogs. There are other how-to HID threads...but this at the least may give a mounting idea or tip.

Here are some pics of the location I mounted the lows; the Volt slim ballasts (XenonDepot) fit perfectly under the black plastic that is below the headlights on an 08 (could be the same for 05-07 but IDK). I drilled two ground holes, and sanded the paint down a couple times to ensure proper contact:thumbsup: I utilized the same ground for low/fog on each side

Siliconed, primer'd and painted grounds :)

Here is all of the wiring behind the headlights...I did not make this perfect but everything is tidy and easily deciphered. I have determined this is a basic and necessary skill for electrical work, especially for a novice such as myself:eek: If you haven't checked it out, take a look at Matt's stereo install...talk about tidy

Here is where I mounted my fog ballasts...this was the natural location b/c I utilized the same grounds as the lows. 2X tape, mounted underneath the lip on the backside of the frame

I ran the power wires for the passenger side ballasts (low and fog) underneath the backside of the black metal the hood latch is connected to...zip-tied it along the metal following the cable for the hood latch release and dumped it right in front of the air intake (see first pic). Here is a pic of the battery connection; the four relays provided with the kit are connected together via tech-flex, and the fuses/fuse cases connect together in parallel:thumbsup:

anyone in NY can perhaps take a look at my HIDs?
They work fine, but once i turn the lights on via switch, i am unable to turn off via switch....only turns off when Im done driving and exit the vehicle and lockup.

I would like to fix this, otherwise Im going to pull them out and perhaps get a different brand of HID....i dont wanna spend the extra cash...Theres gotta be something I can do.

so you are sying that you are in the car driving, turn your lights on, then when you get home or while you are still driving, you cannot turn them off? It sounds like you have the auto headlight feature on...but if you are switching on/off you can't have both enabled. Do you have an external switch you are using? Weird problem...

no.
its day time...i unlock car, lights go on.....eventually go off if i dont turn on the car. otherwise they stay on by the time i turn the car on.
I do not have the auto headlights.... there is no AUTO on my light switch.

My light switch has o for off, then the second click would be turn on the yellows, and the last click turn ON headlights....

So lets say I didnt turn my car on right away after unlocking....lights are off no problem.
then when I turn lights on, and try turning them off after, they remain on.

Lets say I turn my car shortly after the car is unlocked...the lights remain on (without turning switch to ON) - kinda annoying if its during the day, or lets say if i wanted to stay parked smoking in my car behind my tints...lights stay on....

if im driving and i wanted to turn off my low beams..they wont turn off.

HID guy tested capacitor and oem harness and is basically saying the harness still feeds some power even after I turn off the switch....for me to connect to parkin light r turn light or something....

I think its the relay or capacitor... wiring is done right and ground is good....lights function but just dont turn off upon request.

ideas?

go into your computer settings, options, and turn off "illuminated approach"...that will fix the unlock car and lights come on...but to not be able to turn your lights off while driving during the day is very weird
