Trail Rated

What can a trail rated WK2 do that a non trail rated WK2 can't?

Drag itself across a boulder without damaging critical components like the oil pan, transmission, or fuel tank.

I think, for the most part, if you get either offroad package you get skid plates, tow hooks, and a better 4WD system with a transfer case. This enables you to get into bigger trouble--like high-centered on a rock--and to get out of trouble without destroying your ride.

If my Laredo E came with the All Weather Capability group and I added all four skid plates, am I now trail rated?

According to Jeep website, the off-road adventure package 1 comes with the following that makes it worthy of trail rated badge:

Tow Hooks
Front Suspension Skid Plate
Fuel Tank Skid Plate Shield
Full-Size Spare Tire
Steel Spare Wheel
P265/60R18 OWL All Season On/Off Road Tires
Skid Plate Group
"Trail Rated" Badge
Transfer Case Skid Plate Shield
Underbody Skid Plate

From this list, there seems to be more than four skid plates, isn't it? What is "Underbody skid plate" and "Front Suspension Skid Plate"? Is the "Front Suspension Skid Plate" same as the one that goes under the oil pan area?

You need the badge in order for the skid plates to work. You are just "Lawn Rated" now!

Just ask around on the site here if anyone that has "debadged" their Jeep if they can sell you a "trail rated" badge. There's plenty of street peeps around that probably would do that for you.

Trail rating is just a badge. If you want to outfit the non ORA for off road, think about skid plates, tow hooks, and tires.

The QTII with its low range has more off road capability but is not something you can add practically. All the skid plates in the ORA package are available from jeep as parts, four are in the accessory catalog, another small shield is in the parts book. Jeep tow hooks are available. Tow hooks and receiver are required by off road clubs. You can also get the badge there, to make it official.

Th 70th Anniversary edition is trail rated and it has 20 inch wheels and it doesn't have tow hooks and I don't think it even has skid plates. Many WKs and WJs are trail rated with no tow hooks or skid plates.

Which plates would be considered a necessity? Lets say I wanted to add one or two at a time? Planning to get tow hooks first.

Yeah, you're right, it is just a marketing thing.... our 2009 liberty is trail rated without tow hooks, no skid plates, no low range, no receiver, all season tires..... regular temporary spare...

It does have the badge, however.:lol:

Funny, I was just thinking about adding all of the skid plates. I really like my 20s though. I wish the Steelcraft bull bar had integrated tow hooks.

You would only be missing a full size spare and 18's.
