Got Wood?

Alot of people probably remember the old school Grand Wagoneers with wood side paneling.

Then there was the Wagoneer XJ With wood paneling and the Cherokee Briarwood with wood paneling.

There was also the short lived Grand Wagoneer ZJ with wood paneling.

Well while in search of a cold weather grille cover for my jeep i found this company.

Personally, I love it on the older Cherokees and Wagoneers but not the new ones. I really want to restore a XJ Cherokee Briarwood or XJ Wagoneer one day. But never on my Wk.

Re: Got Wood?

A few years back my dad picked up a full size '91 Grand Wagoneer (last year of production - I think) that was in really nice shape. He had been looking for one for a few years. Unfortunately, one day the catalytic converter overheated (was most likely plugged up) and started the carpet on fire which in turn burned up the whole vehicle.

We once had a gray Cherokee Wagoneer with the Wood panels ... sure miss that four liter, it could do anything!

The 4.0 Cherokees really are the Backbone of the 4x4 world. Stock they had Balls to the Walls torque and good power, great capability and just well made. I really want to get my hands on an XJ wagoneer one day and fix it up.

Eh. Load a 4.0L ZJ up with 5 inches of lift, armor, big tires and a winch and it won't get out of it's own way (especially in the mountains). Do the same with a 4.7L Gen II or Hemi WK and you'll have power to spare and a reliable, durable engine.

But im not talking about a ZJ. When i refer to a 4.0 Cherokee i am talking about a Cherokee not a Grand Cherokee. The original 1984 to 2001 Cherokee 4.0 will go just about any where stock.

Mine was a 98 4.0 5.5" of lift, 4:56 gears fully done up with 35s and it would throw me in the back of my seat. Not like and srt8 but it could deff handle highway speeds through the mountains. When i went wheeling with that i drove from Nh to CT to meet up with club members and from CT to PA and then speed 4 days wheeling and drive home. it did just fine.

The 4.0 I6 is a more reliable engine then any 4.7 or HEMI. Maybe thats why the engine has been around since 1986 and was used until 2006 with very minor changes.
