9 Oct 2012 Status of Load Leveling shocks

Figure I would start a new thread for the many owners that are affected with load leveling shocks.

I was at dealer today for my oil change and mentioned the rear shock noise. He drove it and verified the problem and stated it was a well known fault and a new shock/supplier was released. Parts on national backorder due to the large # of vehicles affected. Paperwork reads as follows:

FP NUMBER 68069680
ABSORBER 17023001

QUANTITY 2 IS SPECIAL ORDERED

So now we know a fix is out and lets use this post for all involved to post up when they get new parts installed and outcome.

Maybe this will NOT fix the problem. Same part I have change now 3 times. You are missing letters:
Part# 68069680AB. Clunk back at 700 miles
No fix yet

Hey nonopr01, didn't you report in a different thread that 68069680 is not the new part number, you had the issue return with that part after 700 miles or so?

Ok, that's then the fourth thread dealing with rear clunking noise and SLS;:D

http://www.jeepgarage.org/f107/wk2-r...edo-37484.html
http://www.jeepgarage.org/f107/reare...eak-26901.html
http://www.jeepgarage.org/f107/rear-...ise-47319.html

There are others, but these are the most recent ones.

I did some research on highly complex issue with SLS part numbers, the results are in http://www.jeepgarage.org/f107/wk2-r...tml#post682326

Looks like your part# 68069680 is missing the revision number (last two letters), 68069680AB is a well known part number (since 2010) for the SLS in the export version (according to the parts catalog). As it is for export it takes some weeks to actually get at an US Dealer.
I found in the system a different part wich superseeds the US ones; 68069843AF. That part is on National Backorder or not available so far.

So it would be very interesting what revision your dealer is talking about (and what country you are located ;)). As I haven't heard any complaints from my European Collagues on the SLS, the export version might not face this issue. So, the usage also for domestic might be the solution?

I am already trying to collect all solutions in this thread: http://www.jeepgarage.org/f107/rear-...ise-47319.html
As you can see there we are all getting the same SLS as you...:)

There are indications that this is not the final fix (see nopro01)

I was told the new shocks have not even been shipped to customers yet. Most likely going to JNAP first?

Ok, but the 68069680AB are on the market since 2010 and the standard ones, so they are going to JNAP since then :D. Question is what revision is your dealer talking about.

I got 68069680ABs in on Friday, clunking is gone but even my dealer states that this is probably not the final fix as the ABs aren't 'new designs'.

Part# 68069680AB.
You are correct sorry I thought it was a different part number.
My clunk is back after 700 miles. They keep pulling bull out of the hat.
No fix for the problem yet.
National back order means in the real world: That the part is not available until they fix the problem.
Good luck with waiting for the part.

Re: 9 Oct 2012 Status of Load Leveling shocks

Got my "AB" shocks installed yesterday. While I was there, I asked the service rep about the issue with the shocks and how I'd likely be back in 700-1,000 miles with the same issue again. He admitted that he'd done research on the issue and that I'd likely be back.

We agreed that the thing to do is to make sure as many owners as possible connect with Jeep to inform them of the issue so that a formal response can be expedited.

Re: 9 Oct 2012 Status of Load Leveling shocks

Took my Jeep yesterday for service and they are changing the whole shock assembly on both sides of the rear. I bet they use the same shocks we have been having the problem with. It will be my surprise if the use the new ones that came out that are on national back order.
