is this a spare or the one that you always use?

my spare had to be programmed, when i used my spare it stated "wrong key"

Re: 09 Grand Cherokee Key problems

Its the primary one. It usually works but recently it has been giving us problems, could it be the battery?

could be the battery or the key fob itself. i would def try the spare key to see if that works. if that works then you know it is the original key. if the spare key doesn't work then you know it isn't the primary key.

Re: 09 Grand Cherokee Key problems

The battery only runs the keyless entry part of the key, the transponder has no battery and gets its power from the coil pickup around the igntion switch...So I doubt it is the battery..I thought there was some sort of TSB for this issue...

that can not be true. when my keyfob battery died 3 weeks ago my car disengaged itself. it would only start for 2 seconds and then shut off. i had to get a new battery and then reset the car by removing the negative terminal for 5 minutes.

Definitely true...Chrysler makes a POD key that will operate the door locks and ignition(Doesnt have the remote functions built into it) and there is no battery in it....I am a Locksmith and have some experience with the systems...
