2013 fuel 3.6L

Recently picked up my 2013 Overland 3.6L. I know from hanging out here that 87 octane is recommended and anything higher is not. The User Guide that came with the vehicle says "We recommend use of 91 octane or higher for optimum performance." Assume that this is a BIG misprint since the Owners Manual recommends 87 octane. If a new owner does not send off for the Owners Manual and relies on the supplied User Guide, they will be pumping premium!

Re: 2013 fuel 3.6L

Is the User Guide specifically for the 3.6l, or does it cover both engines?

Congrats on the new Overland!

I think your looking at the section for the 5.7 Hemi. I noticed that as well in the manual for my 2012, but after looking a bit closer that particular section was for the V8. Regardless what that manual says, your V6 was designed to run on 87 octane regular fuel.

Very odd. The Hemi doesn't recommend 91 either. It recommends (but not requires) 89. Maybe you're reading a statement for the SRT?

It lists the 3.6L and beneath it the Hemi. They have the same fuel recommendations next to them...91 octane or better for optimum performance. The User Guide is for 3.6L, V8, and SRT.

My Owners Manual States on page 424,
3.6L The use of premium gasoline is not recommended as it will not provide any benefit over regular gasoline in these engines.

Either way the 3.6 can run E-85....(flex fuel) why are you worried?

Did you get a User Manual? It is different from the Owners Manual. Check out the back of the User Manual for fuel recommendations.
I'll be using 87 octane. Just saying it's a major typo since many people won't read the Owners Manual which now comes on a dvd and you have to call Chrysler to get a hard copy. All that's in the glove box now is the small color User Manual.

You are right, the user's guide is definitely wrong. Looks like they copied and pasted from the 6.4L box.

As a side note, the 2012 version did not have that error, it specifically called out 87 (3.6L), 89 (5.7L) and 91 (6.4L). Jeep will need to get v2 out soon to fix that.

Here are the two pages in question, taken from the latest edition of the 2013 WK2 USA User Guide and Owner's Manual. The User Guide states the 91 octane requirement, which is presumably wrong, unless a big re-evaluation of the 3.6L head problem has prompted a major change. Who knows the answer?
