Remote starters. if you arent good with electrical and comfortable in that aspect, they can be a headache. To find out if you need a bypass is to look at your key.

If the top of your key is black, you wont need a bypass.
If the top is grey, you have a chip and will need a bypass that will learn the code or to give up a key.

2004 Jeep, compustar, jdlpk

That page will give you all the wiring info you need, you have to go into the doors for lock and lock, but i think there is a way around that, havent done an older cherokee in a few months for a remote start.

Flashlogic - FLCAN

Is the info for the bypass. You will also need a special tool to program the bypass with the proper firmware.

Re: Remote start kit

I had to leave a spare key under the steering wheel for that. I installed a CompuStar starter/security system. I'm better than most when it comes to electronics but this took me the entire day to install. I only have the minimum the kit comes with there is so much more you can do too. But anyway all I needed was an extra key near the ignition to be able to auto start and I've had no problems for the 3 years I've had it.
