Broken Antenna

Garage door broke 2011 Grand Cherokee Overland antenna off. Left part of
screw in. How do I get it out and install new antenna?

Re: Broken Antenna

if it snapped flush i would get a reversed threading screw extractor kit, drill the appropriate size hole down the centre of the bolt and try unscrewing it. the reverse thread type so as not to have to hammer anything (have some 4 blade tap/hammer in extractors that work great) in and risk rippling the roof. if that fails i would elongate the drilled hole and try a flat head screw driver that fit snuggly. wouldnt hurt to throw something on around it to catch any metal bits. These would be the safer ways i would try, I do building maintenace and encounter broken bolts regularly ,but on top of a vehicle i have not had the fun of trying ...good luck

Excellent advice from blackxj

Once you've removed the broken bolt, get a shark fin.

Re: Broken Antenna

The antenna bolt actually fits pretty loose (the serrated rubber bottom of the antenna mast is what "clicks" it into a tight fit) . My mast was installed loose and almost fell off before I discovered it, and tightened it. If you were lucky and did not damage the threads, you might we able to get it to turn out. Can you take and post a photo of the broken bolt, for a better opinion of the situation. Unlike others, I do not believe you will have much success trying to drill a hole in the piece of bolt that is left in the hole - to use an extractor.

You might be able to get the broken piece to turn using a small screwdriver, needle-nose pliers or even a pencil/eraser (might have to whittle it down to a smaller diameter) to get it to turn out a few rotations until you can grab it with a pliers.

Re: Broken Antenna

I had my Jeep Cherokee shipped on a truck to me recently and the driver was careless and broke the antenna off leaving a bit of the metal in the housing. How did you eventually fix your situation. Need help.
