What causes sometimes rough idle and blowing black smoke upon accelerating hard on my 96 Grand Cherokee with inline 6 cyl??? thanks

Yes, seems too rich, but I don't know what is causing it. Runs very good above idle like on highway. Peppy, but with some black smoke on heavy acceleration.

Have you tried pulling any codes? Might at least give you a place to start looking.

OK guys, I'm done. Took it to garage and it was O2 Sensor upstream. Thanks for all the help!!
