Tires, Rubbers, Meats, etc

Hokay here goes. I will be needing new tires before winter. i am staying with 245/65/17. I have no plans to go with a different size rim/tire.

I currently have the Fortera HL tires and i hate them. They are too expensive, they suck in the snow, and mud (i have to go on alot of dirt roads and parking lots not wheeling)

I want a tire that gets me the best of both worlds. Well that too me all of .02 seconds to think of. I should get the BFG AT K/O or General Grabber AT2, (carbon copy)

The problem is, i know from past experience that the highway manners of those tires is so so as compared to a (street tire) like the fortera. I dont want to loose ride or comfort quality.

BUT i need amazing snow traction (we get alot of deep snow) and dirt roads/mud/ everything else.

My final concern is looks. I love solid white letters, not black walls or OWL tires, and dont really want the super aggressive side wall look that the bfg has.

Stick with the BFG?

Any suggestions?

I DO NOT WANT GOOD YEARS AGAIN.

What about the Bridgestone Dueller A/T Revo or RHT? (j/k sahara tires)

The problem with those is they are VERY expensive.

HELP!!!!!!!!!! :confused::confused::confused::confused::confused: :confused::confused:

www.tirerack.com is your friend...they have a rating system(which rates each tire for snow traction, mud traction, highway manners etc. etc.), test most if not all their tires and have a customer review section. You dont hjave to buy there...unless they have the best price. But their tire section is unrivaled as far as tire reviews.

Re: Tires, Rubbers, Meats, etc

Id did that, thats how i figured out how much the fortera really sucks.

I am just looking for more of a personal opinion/preference thing.

I ruled out getting the SRT8 wheels any time soon so once i get new tires i am going to save for a set of Silver AEV Pintler wheels, maybe next spring.

There is one set of tires that look really good, Steel Radial, Sport King AT tires, (made by BFG as an BFG AT knock off) but i cant find reviews any where and it seems like its is the poor mans bfg and i dont want a cheapo depot tire but those solid white letters look slick.

I haven't had the sport kings on my jeep but I did have them on my 98 jimmy and they were an awesome tire! I never had any trouble and they went great through the snow. I was told that they wouldn't fit on the jeep in the stock 245/65/17 size though, but check on that!

Good Luck!!

Re: Tires, Rubbers, Meats, etc

Cool, glad to hear someone with experience with them. Why wouldnt they fit with that aize when others do? is there that much of a variation between brands that one brand of 245/65/17 will fit and others wont?

i really hope they do cause i like the size/ its wide but not too tall to look modified but makes the jeep look good. The 235/65/17s look too small IMHO.

I really liked the sport kings too...I'm not really sure why they don't fit...not sure if they are too tall or too wide, but thats what I was told when I was looking for new tires last winter. I would check it out just to be sure though...If I wake up early enough tomorrow I'll head down to my tire guy and see what he says!!

Don't get the bridgestone dueler h/l alenza .. they sucks big time in the deeper snow.

Those looks like sick tires but i need sumtin more aggressive.

Thats why i am really curious to find out if the 245/65/17 will fit for the Sport King Steel Radial ATs. They have the BFG AT tread but the tires side wall still looks sporty enough to not scream off road.

I wonder if its just the bolt on the suspension that keeps that size from fitting. Thats really strange that a tire from one company will fit in a size but not another in the same size.

Anyone got updates on the sport kings fitting in 245/65/17?
