SRT Design GC coming soon?

Anyone remember the SRT Design 300? Would it diminish the tradition or add new customers down the road. Apparently not everyone can afford the $65k Jeep they desire.

Are you talking about a regular Jeep GC with the body kit from the SRT8's?

Audi does something like this. They call it their S-Line. It's basically an appearance package for people who don't want to buy a true "S" car.

For example, you can get a plain old A4, or an A4 with the S-Line package, or an S4. The A4 is a plain jane. The S-Line looks better than the A4 (bumpers, moldings, wheels, seats), and gets a sport suspension but doesn't get all the performance upgrades of the S4. The S4 gets all the appearance upgrades and bigger engine, better suspension, brakes, etc.

Jeep did this with the Liberty Sport. You could add the Latitude package get the chrome appearance and leather seats without all of the Latitude trinkets. I think they should have done that with the Altitude across the Grand Cherokee. If you wanted a base Laredo with the Altitude package should have been able to buy a bundle and it to the cost of the Jeep. Of Course they should have also offered this with the Higher levels also.

The WK was also offered in a "S Limited" trim package.

Jeep Grand Cherokee WK - Jeep Grand Cherokee S-Limited

Perhaps a WK2 "S Limited" will be offered at some point.

Most of the luxury makes are going over to this format. They add in a slightly more aggressive suspension (sometimes), new wheels and some cosmetic things, a few interior touches, and then some badges and tack on another 10k or more. Lexus has F Sport, BMW has M Performance, Audi has S-Line, MB doesn't have any AMG branded name, but many times the dealers will add an AMG badge to help sell the cars.

I don't think it would help the Jeep at all. If you want something like that, they already offer the Durango R/T. What they should do is upgrade the Durango R/T more, and push that as the sporty vehicle.

They need to add the cooled seats, and a panoramic moonroof to the Durango R/T. That was what put me into an Overland instead of a Durango R/T. The R/T has all the sound and styling you'd want in a sporty but not fast vehicle. Also if the Durango wasn't so slow, that'd be nice too. The Jeep being slow didn't bother me because its a Jeep.

I think the SRT8 owners would get mad. People would begin to associate our slow normal Hemi GCs with SRT8s, because they would look the same. A lot of people would buy the SRT/D instead of the SRT8 because it'd look the same, cost less, have the same interior, but not use as much gas. Still others would be turned off from buying the SRT8 because it would lose its badboy cred by having a lot of slow lookalikes running around.

Just my opinion. A lot of people disagree,
